Edinburgh
has long been the center of excellence for Historical and Genealogical
research in Scotland, from the many libraries to Edinburgh Castle
which both hold records of individuals and families some dating
back to the early 16th Century, so don't delay send me an e-mail now and find those long lost Scottish Ancestors.
The
Old Parish Records (OPRs) which date from 1553
to 1854 contain Births Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths. The information
contained on these OPRs can give you either there dates names and
places of residence or only a name and date and very little else.
In some of the marriage records the dates that have been
recorded may not be the date proper, it may well be the date of
the couples intention to be married or the proclamation of their
Banns
The
further you go back in time on the OPRs the more difficult it is
to read some of the entries, in some Parishes the only information
on deaths are the amount of Mort clothes that were bought or borrowed
and the price.
Over
the years I have found that surnames have been changed either by
the Clerks or Ministers when writing their entries into the Parish
Records also because many people could neither read nor write.

Thank
you very much for your reply and very helpful information.
It is nice to know that people such as yourself will take
the time to assist a stranger with a question. I have
looked for the information you provided me with on many
ocassions, but was always disappointed. I really love
your site and will visit it often. Again, thank you very
much for taking the time to care.
