[ANDREW FORRESTER, son of Alexander F., above mentioned; min. of Corstorphine; pres. by James VI. 27th Sept. 1597. The Presb. (5th Oct.) find "they cannot proceed to his collation and admission because he lacks ane license of transportation; and by dealing with his father for the place is under danger of ane Act of Assembly."]

 

1598 JAMES GIBSON, min. of Spott 1576, of Saltoun 1578, of Pencaitland 1580; trans. and adm. 13th June 1598; pres. to the vicarage by James VI. 13th June following; died between 21st July and 6th Oct. 1602. He marr. Marion Tait, who survived him, and had issue Catherine -[Calderwood's Hist.; M'Crie's Melville, ii.]

 

1602 ROBERT WALLACE, M.A., brother of William W., of Bridgehouse, Riccarton; ord. (but not settled) to Leuchars 1591; min. of Second Charge, St Andrews, 1593; of Glenluce 1599; Visitor of Nithsdale 1600; trans. and adm. 10th Dec. 1602; pres. to the vicarage by James VI. 28th Jan. 1603; coll. 9th -lay 1604. He was one of the rains. who waited on His Majesty at Haddington, 5th April 1603, on his way to England. He signed a Protest to Parliament, 1st July 1606, against the introduction of Episcopacy, and was one of eight ordered to confer with the King in London. Having petitioned the Privy Council of England, he was ordered to remove to Lauder 1st May, and was confined in Sept. 1607 to his own parish, where he died 25th Dec. 1617, "of grief at the prospect of changes in the church." He marr. Margaret Borthwick, who survived him, and had issue-William; Rebecca; Robert; George. - [Reg. 1614 ROBERT BALCANQUHAL, eldest son of Walter B., min. of Trinity Parish, Edinburgh; educated at Edinburgh Univ.; M.A. (31st July 1606); mentioned as min. 8th July 1614 (Mime Home Papers, 193) ; pres. by James VI.

24th Jan.; coll. (at Haddington), and inst. March 1618; declined election as min. at Edinburgh 5th Nov. 1620; suspended by General Assembly in Aug. 1649; deprived before 13th March 1650, for being "accessorie to the Divisive supplies." 1651 WALTER BALCANQUHAL, eldest son of preceding; M.A. (Edinburgh, 27th July 1609). From various causes, he dem. about 1658 and further trace of him is lost.

 

1658 THOMAS KIRKALDIE, M.A.; trans.  from Carnwath; called 18th Aug. 1657; adm. 1st April 1658; deprived 1662; indulged at Dalserf (q.v.).-[Wodr ow's Hist., i.; Morrisons Dec., xviii.]

 

1663 ROBERT BALCANQUHAL, M.A.,  above mentioned; reponed by the Bishop and Synod; returned in 1663; died between 19th May and 15th Sept. 1664, aged about 78. He marr. (1) 16th Feb. 1614, Jean, daugh. of Principal Robert Rollock, and had issue-Walter (see above); Robert, M.A., bapt. 28th April 1618; George, M.A., a preacher, born 1619, died 8th Nov. 1658 (see his recently discovered tombstone at Tranent) : (2) Isobel, daugh. of James Baron of Kinnaird, and had issue-Margaret (marr. 1650, Sir Robert Colt, advocate); Jean (marr. Thomas Ramsay, min. of Foulden)-[Edin. Guild and Reg. (Marr. and Bapt.), Tombst.; Reg. Old Dec., ii.; Craufurd's Univ. Edin.]

 

1666 ANDREW BARCLAY, M.A. (St Andrews 1646); ord. to Lecropt, 22nd June 1652; pres. by George, Earl of Winton; trans. and coll. 7th, and inst. 28th Sept. 1666; died 1st Aug. 1671, in 48th year. He marr. Katherine Couper, who died 3rd May 1683, aged 59, and had issue-George, bursar of the Presb. 26th April 1683, and of the diocese of Dunblane 2nd Oct. 1688.-[Reg. Collat., Tombst]
