not complying with the ordinances of the Assembly 1618: through the intercession of his brother, John, Bishop of Caithness, however, the case was delayed till 9th July following, when it was passed over. ROBERT MAIRTINE, A.M., trans. from Ettrick, pres. by Charles I. 2d Jan., and adm. 23d June; refusing to conform to Episcopacy, he was confined to the parish, and died 12th Aug. 1665, aged about 73, in 48th min., leaving a widow.-[Reg. WILLIAM TURNBULL, A.M., son of Mr William T., min. of Mackerston, had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th July 1646, passed trials before the Presb., and had a testimonial 4th July 1665 for license, pres. by Charles II. 9th Oct., coll. in Dec. 1665, and inst. 10th Jan. following; ceased (probably from death) between 3d Jan. and 4th April 1677, aged about 50, in 11th min.-[Min.-book Reg. WILLIAM NASMYTH, A.M., trans. from Torbolton, pres. by Charles Il. 11th Jan., coll. in April, and inst. 8th May; deprived by the Privy Council 4th Sept. 1689 for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, and not praying for their majesties William and Mary, but for the restoration of James VIL, destruction to his enemies, and that God would take the Usurper out of the way. 1694. JAMES NOBLE, A.M., trans. from Yetholm, called in Nov. 1693, and adm. 4th April following; died 17th Aug. 1739, in his 83d year, and 51st min. He marr. 1731. JOHN JOHNSTON, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 29th Sept. 1719, called 23d Sept. 1730, and ord. (colleague and suc. 25th Feb. thereafter; he was one of the fifteen min. who disented from the Act deposing the eight Seceding brethren, 15th May 1740, and died 21st Oct. 1754, in 64th age and 21st min. WILLIAM PATON, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 18th March 1742, licen. by the Presb. of Dalkeith 30th April 1745, pres. by George II. in April, and ord. 27th Aug. 1755; died 6th May 1807, in his 87th year, and 52d min. He discharged the dunes of his office with diligence and fidelity, and marr. 12th April 1759, Sarah, daugh. of Mr James Nasmyth, min. of Dalmeny, she died 19th Jan. 1819, aged 89. They had a daugh.
