1664. JAMES ADAMSON, A.M., trans. from Carriden, and inst. 7th Sept.; deprived by the Privy Council 29th Aug. 1689, for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, not praying for their majesties William and Mary, and praying for King James. He marr. 28th Dec. 1680 Esther Scougall.-[Presb., and Edin. Reg. (Marr.), MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Sinclair's xv., and New St. Acc. iii., Peterkin's Constitution of the Church.]

 

1690. JAMES BORLAND, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1670, admitted schoolmaster and session-clerk of Mauchlin 11th Nov. 1673, which he quitted before 4th Jan. 1680, he had officiated at Galashiels, was adm. 23d July 1690; was a member of the Gen. Assembly 1692, and died 2d May 1713, aged 68. He marr. Marianne Stevenson, who died aged 66, leaving jc li to the parochial poor, Their daugh. Margaret marr. 1714. JOHN GILCHRIST, a native of Dumfries, pres. by John Ker, of Cavers, in Aug. 1713, and ord. 3d Feb. following; he dissented from the Act of Assembly 15th May 1740, deposing the eight Seceding ministers, and died 8th May 1746, in 33d min. His only daugh. marr. Mr John Cranstoun, min. of Ancrum.-[Presb. Reg., Sinclair's xv., and New St. Acc. iii., Reg. Gen. Ass. 1740, &c.]

 

1748. GEORGE DICKSON, called 27th May 1747, and ord. 16th March thereafter; his right to cut wood growing on the glebe was questioned by the heritors, but he obtained a decision to the contrary from the Lord Ordinary (Drummore), 30th July 1754; he strenuously opposed the suppression of Abbotrule in 1777, and died 30th June 1787, in 40th min. He marr. 1st 20th June 1755 Agnes Howison, who died 18th Feb. 1760; 2dlg, 17th May 1762 Anne Buckham, who died 15th Dec. 1784, leaving issue.-[Presb. 1788. WILLIAM BROWN, usher to an academy in France, and to another in the vicinity of London, teacher in Geo. Watson's Hospital, Edinburgh, where he was licen. by that Presb. 30th Jan. 1782. He became tutor in the family of Sir John Stewart of Allanbank, was pres. by Joseph Hume, Esq., of Ninewells, 19th July 1787, and ord. 7th May following; died 23d May 1836, in 49th min. He was possessed of considerable talents and literature. He marr. 2d June 1813 Janet, eldest daugh. of Mr Arch. 1832. ARCHIRALD CRAIG, A.M., a native of Coldingham, took his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th Nov. 1810, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 29th Dec. 1812, pres. by David Hume, Esq., of Ninewells, one of the Barons of Exchequer in July, and ord.
