1674. john suinton, A.M., trans, from - . Had been graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 18th July 1664, was licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh 26th March 1665, and after passing trials before the Presb. of Haddington, was ord. by him 14th Dec. following; to a charge in the Diocese of Glasgow; appointed by the Synod, and adm. to this par. 21st Oct. 1674. In a letter to the Presb. 10th Oct. 1705, he stated, " after communing with the heritors of my parish, I am now resolved to admit a young man to be my colleague, and to officiate all the parts of a minister, because of my inability of body, providing alwise that I be allowed access to my pulpit at least half of the day, if I shall think it convenient, as also that I brooke and enjoy the half of the stipend, six sowms of grass, and the manse and glebe ad vitam." He died between 25th March 1706 and 5th Sept. 1710. The Inventar amounted to vc vj Ii. vjs. ijjd Kathrin Gray, widow, died in Edinburgh 25th Aug. 1719. — [Reg. Law. Univ. 1706. john gampbel, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh, 28th June 1697, became chaplain to Sir John Swinton of that ilk, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 4th Nov. 1701, called 8th Nov. 1705, ord. (assist, and sue.) 28th March 1706; died 16th Jan. 1759, in his 84th year and 53d min. He marr. 12th June 1707, Elizabeth Craig, in the par. of North Berwick, and had issue. — [Reg. Laur. Univ. 1759. richard scot, son of Mr John S., min. of Stenhouse, licen. by the Presb. of Peebles 2d Oct. 1752, called 2d Aug. and ord. 20th Sept, 1759; trans, to Ewes 25th August 1761. — [Sess. Reg., &c.]
1762. ralph drummond, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 25th March 1761, pres. by, and ord. 6th May 1762; died 24th March 1784, in 66th age, and 22d min. He marr. Jean Trail, who died 21st July 1797, and had two sons, George, who succeeded to the cure, and another. — [Presb. Reg., &c.]

1801. david tod, A.M., a native of Portmoak, licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcaldy 24th Nov. 1779, went to London in 1788, as assistant to the Rev. Dr Patrick, min. of the Presbyterian congregation, Peter Street, Soho, and was ord. by the Scotch Presb. there 3d Feb. 1790, as his colleague and successor. Giving offence to his hearers by his support of constitutional principles, in opposition to the pernicious philosophy and principles of the French Revolution, he withdrew from his situation, and retired to his paternal abode. None making application for the parish, owing to the smallness of the benefice, the patron solicited the Rev. Dr Moodie, of St Andrews, Edinburgh, to aid him. Dr M. fixed on Mr T., who was pres. by. Charles Watson, Esq. of Saughton, in Aug., and adm. 24th Sept. 1801; died 2d Feb. 1813, in 23d |
