GEORGE RIDPATH, eldest son of Mr George R., min. of Ladykirk, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 27th May 1740, pres. by George II.-and by William, Earl of Home-1742, and ord. 16th Feb. thereafter; died 31st Jan. 1772, in his 56th year, and 29th min., "a judicious and learned man." He marr., 6th Sept. 1764, Wilhelmina Dawson, who died 10th April 1810, and had a daugh., Christian.-Publications-Christian Liberty opposed to Popish Superstition and Slavery, a sermon, Edin., 1751, 8vo. 1773. ANDREW SCOTT, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 30th Sept. 1766, became assistant to Mr Francis Scott, min. of Westruther, pres. by George III. 18th July 1772, and ord. 4th Feb. following; died 12th Nov. 1826, in 83d age and 54th min. He marr. 20th Jan. 1779, Eleonora, daugh. of Mr John Cranstoun, min. of Ancrum, she died 11th Nov. 1828, and had three daugh., Janet, spouse of Rev. David W. 1822. JAMES PATERSON, son of William P., Ochiltree, bapt. 9th Oct. 1785, licen. by the Presb. of Lauder 3d Feb. 1818, appointed by George IV. in May, and ord. (assist. and suc.) 26th Nov. 1822; demitted (having been pres. to Gordon), which was accepted 9th Aug. 1824.[Ochilttree Sess., and Presb. Reg.]

PETER BUCHANAN, son of John B., in Trian, Callander, licen. by the Presb. of Lauder 7th May 1822, pres. by George IV. in Jan., and ord. 2d Aug. 1827; died 19th Aug. 1848, in 51st age and 22d min. HOME. The church was dedicated to St Nicolas, and prior to the Reformation belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. The parish was supplied by CHARLES HOME, reader, who had the Chaplainry of Halyburton from 1567 till he was “deprivit" 1st May 1577, but had it again from 1578 to 1585. It has been long united to Stitchell.
1574. ROBERT FRANCHE, trans. from Eccles, when Stitchell, Gordoun, Eccleiss and Greenlaw were also in the charge, with a stipend of lxxxvj li. viii s. iiij d., with the kirk lands; he was pres. to Legertwood by James VI. before 18th May 1591, but continued in 1595, and was retrans. to Eccles.-[Reg. JAMES FRENCHE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in 1595, having charge in 1596 also of Stitcbell and Ednam, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 6th March 1605, and to the parsonage and vicarage here 1st Aug. 1611; trans. to Eccles in 1596, but returned in 1608; continued 8th July 1613, but “ordained to cease fra teaching at Hoome under pain of deposition."-[Act.
