1735. ROBERT HOG, licen. by the Presb. 5th Dec. 1732, pres. by John, Duke of Roxburgh in Feb., and ord. 11th June 1735; died 3d Feb. 1781, in his 77th year, and 46th min. Mary Home, his widow, died 8th March 1810. He had three daugh. Christian, Veronica, and Charlotte who marr. William Brown, Esq.-[Presb., and Sess. Reg., Sinclair’s St. Acc. xix.]
1781. ANDREW BELL, studied at the Univ. of St Andrews, licen. by the Presb. of Jedburgh 23d Aug. 1779, pres. by John, Duke of Roxburgh in May, and ord. 29th Nov. 1781; died 29th April 1819, in 65th age, and 38th min. 1819. JAMES HOPE, a native of Dumfries-shire, licen. by the Presb. of Annan 4th May 1814, pres. by James, Duke of Roxburgh 4th June, and ord. 23d Sept. 1819; died 7th March 1843, in his 56th year, and 24th min. He marr. 15th Dec. 1835 Marion daugh. of the Rev. James Young, min. of Eckford; she died at Linlithgow 8th July 1849, and had issue.-Publication -Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. iii.).-[Presb. SPROUSTON. The church was dedicated to St Michael, and, previous to the Reformation, belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. It was supplied by ANDREW HAISTIE, reader in 1574, and ROBERT YOUNG from 1576 to 1580.
1605. RICHARD SYMSONE, A.M., son of Mr Andrew S., min. of Dalkeith, took his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in 1602, pres. by James VI. 16th March 1605, he was a member of the Gen. Assembly 1638, was sick 30th Oct. 1655, and died, before Oct. 1656, aged about 73, in 51st min. leaving two sons, Mr James, min. of Airth, and Robert, collector of Mid-Lothian. -[Act. Rect. Univ. 1645. JAMES SYMSON, A.M., son of the preceding, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 25th July 1635, ord. by the Presb. of Dalkeith 7th July 1642, as chaplain to Lord Sinclair's regiment, adm. (colleague) in Aug. 1645; trans. to Airth 28th May 1648, though he still continued here 24th Oct. 1649, and was subsequently called to a Presbyterian congregation in Ulster.-[Edin. 1655. SAMUEL Row, A.M., trans. from Kirkmabreck, called , and adm. (by the Protesters Livingston of Ancrum; Somervell of Ednam; Jameson of Swinton; Ramsay of Mordington; Douglas of Hilton; Rutherford of Eccles; and Symson of Airth, "all of them being either alreadie censured, or in process before the Synod,") 13th Dec. 1665, irrespective of the Presb., who solemnly protested against it, and took evidence of letters from masters to tenants overawing and terrify |
