MOW, or MOLLE.

The church previous to the Reformation belonged to the Abbey of Kelso, and the parish was supplied by WILLIAM QUHYTE, reader in 1580, and JOHN QUHYTE in 1585. The parishioners, 22d Aug. 1617, gave a preference to Morebattle, but express their willingness to have ane minister, gif maintenance could be found. It was, however, united to Morebattle before 16th Dec. 1635.

 

1580. ROBERT KER, trans. from Merton, having been pres. to Morebattle by James VI. 23d Jan. 1579; in 1580 Lyntoun, Merbattle, and Hownam formed part of the charge; removed to Morebattle about 1582.-[Reg. Assig.]

 

1617. ROBERT MAIRTINE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in July 1612, pres. by James VI. 6th July, and adm. after 23d Sept. 1617; trans. to Etterick in 1618.-[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Presb. Reg., Reg. Sec. Sigill, and Pres.]

 

NENTHORN.

Was formerly a chapel belonging to Ednam. The parish was supplied by WILLIAM ORMISTOUN, reader, from 1574 to 1578, THOMAS DAVIDSON in 1579, and THOMAS RANDELSOUN in 1580. It was disjoined from the Presb. of Lauder, and annexed to that of Kelso by the General Assembly 28th May 1776.

 

1597. JOHN SPOTTISWOOD, formerly of Mordington, on the exercise at Edinburgh in 1596, where he had formerly been min. of Cramond (Dr M'Crie has confounded him with the Archbishop), pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 17th May 1599; died before 30th Aug. 1611, leaving Haillie, his widow.-[Reg. 1611. ANDREW KINNEIR, A.M., from the Presb. of Meigle, took his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews 22d July 1608, pres. by James VI. 30tb Aug. 1611, passed trials before the Presb., the par. being then in that of Melrose, and got a testimonial to the Archbishop 5th Dec. following for ordination; continued 13th Feb. 1648. 1660. JAMES FLETCHER, A.M., probably a native of Dundee, attained his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews 20th July 1650, adm. 2d Feb. 1660; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June and of the Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662, for not conforming to Episcopacy. -[Act Rect. 1664. JAMES ROBESONE, residing in Kelso, passed trials before that Presb., and was recommended to the Archbishop 17th March 1663 for licence, and secondary trials with a view to Tundergarth, and was recommended 1st Dec. 1663; but preferring Nenthorn, he was ord. and
