He marr. 1st Aug. 1752, Mrs Rebekah daugh. of Andrew Ker Read, of Hoselaw, she died in 1753; and 2dly, lst Jan. 1759, Cecilia Rutherford, who died at London about 1795, and had two sons and three daugh., Robert, William, Frances, Sarah, and Cecilia.-[Presb., and Yetholm Sess. 1781. ANDREW OGILVIE, born 20th June 1732, licen. by the Presb. of Langholm 5th Sept. 1758, ord. by the Dissenting Class Newcastle, as min. of the Groatmarket Meeting-house there, pres. by John Pringle Esq., of Clifton in April, and adm. 31st July 1781; died 15th Jan. 1805, in 73d age. 1805. WILLIAM FAICHNEY, son of William F., in the par. of Muthill, born 2d Sept. 1764, licen. by the Presb. of Auchterarder 1st May 1792, became assistant to the Rev. David Dickson, min. of Ednam in 1794, pres. by Mark Pringle, Esq., of Clifton, in June, and ord. 19th Sept. 1805; died unmarried 5tb Dec. 1854, in his 91st year, and 50th min.-[Muthill Sess., and Presb. MAKERSTON.

The church, previous to the Reformation, belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. It was supplied by MARTIN RUTHERFORD in 1567 (he died in 1584), JOHN BROUNSIDE from 16th June 1574 to 1578, and JAMES RUTHERFORD 1579 to 1586, &c.

 

1588. WILLIAM PATOUN, A.M., brother of John P. of Middle Bellilisk, had his degree from the Univ. of St Andrews in 1585; he was trans. to Orwell in 1592.-[Reg. Assig., Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Test. Reg: (Stirl.).]

 

1607. JAMES WILKIE, A.M., a native of Lothian, attained his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in 1592, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 26th Dec. 1612, and died in 1634.[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Reg. Assig., Sec. Sigill, and Pres.]

 

1635. WILLIAM TURNBULL, A.M., son of Thomas T. of Mynto, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 29th July 1626, pres. by Charles I. 15th Jan. 1635; was a member of Assembly in 1645, and died before Oct. 1667, aged about 61, in 32d min., leaving a son, Mr William, min. of Eckford.-[Edin. 1667. GEORGE BUCHANAN, A.M., trans. from Callander, pres. by in July, coll. before 8th, and inst. and adm. 24th Oct.; continued 4th April 1682. Mr John, his eldest son, entered burgess and guild-brother of Edinburgh 8th Sept. 1680; another son, Thomas, was recommended to the archbishop, 21st March 1676, for licence.-[Presb., and Edin. 1682. GEORGE HOUIE, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1671, after being a min. in England six or seven years, he was pres. by Robert, Earl of Roxburgh, and inst. in Sept.1682; continued 3d Oct. 1683. An accusation of immoral conduct was laid against him before the kirk-session of Salton 13th Feb. 1687, which was repeated in a subsequent minute.
