1774. JOHN SKED, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 4th Oct. 1763, pres. by George III. in April and ord. 24th Aug. 1774; died 23d Jan. 1810, in 77th age, and 39th min. He marr. 9th Feb. 1790, and left issue.-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. xii.).[Presb. Reg., &c.]

 

1813. ALEXANDER ANDERSON, a native of Dunse, licen. by the Presb. of Chirside 31st March 1789, ord. in Aug. 1790, as min. of the Presbyterian congregation at Kirkly, whence he removed to , and afterwards to Wigton, Cumberland, pres. by George III. 16th March and adm. 3d Aug. 1813; died a bachelor 23d Oct. 1822, in 70th age, and 33d min.-[Presb Reg., Tombst.]

 

1823. JOHN WALLACE, licen. by the Presb. of Perth 30th March 1814, pres. by George IV. in Nov. 1822, ord. 26th June 1823. On adhering to the Protest, joining in the Free Secession, and signing the deed of Demission, he was declared no longer a min. of this Church 24th May 1843. He was the best member of the Assembly who left the venerable house on that memorable departure. Having drawn none of his parishioners with him, he became Teacher of Mathematics in the Free College, and died at Edinburgh 2d Nov. 1866, in 44th min. HE marr. 11th March 1825, and left a son Alexander William, M.D.-Publication-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. ii.)- (Presb; Reg., &c.]

 

STRAFONTANES, or TROIS-FONTAINES

Belonged originally to the college-kirk of Dunglass, but “since the Reformation has ever been conjoynit" with Abbey St. Bathan's.

 

BONKLE, AFTERWARDS BONKLE AND PRESTON.

The parish was supplied by JOHN BLAG, exhorter, in 1567.

 

1582. WILLIAM SINCLAIR, reader at Bonkle and Preston from 1574 to 1580, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 12th March. In 1585 he had Preston also in charge; continued in 1589. He removed to Preston in the following year, but returned again in 1597.-[Reg. Pres, and Assig., Test. Reg., Cadderwood's Hist., Wodrow Miscell.]

 

1599. GEORGE REIDPATH, AM., trans. from Ellem, and adm. in 1599; re-trans. to Ellem in 1607.-[Reg. Assig.]

 

1607. MATTHEW CARRAIL, son of Mr. William C., min. of Edrom; trans. to Edrom in 1612. -[,St. Andrew's Syn., Edin. (Marr), and Prestonpans Sess. Reg.]

 

1614. JOHN GAITTIS. In 1627 there were "fyf hundreth communicants in the parochin," yet “no scoull, but great need of ane." Being at the castle of Dunglass with a party of soldiers, left to watch the motions of the garrison of Berwick, under the command of Thomas, Earl of Haddington, the powder magazine was fired by an incendiary, and exploded, 30th August 1640; when the commander, Mr. G., and about sixty-six others, were killed, while thirty-three were wounded.-[Reg.
