JAMES LANDERETH, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 12th April 1715, became chaplain to Sir James Stewart of Goodtrees, was licen. by the Presb. of Hamilton 26th May 1724, called 16th, and ord. 23d Sept. 1725; died 3d Oct. 1756, in his 65th year, and 32d min.-[Reg. WHITSOME. The parish was supplied by HEW, or Sir HEW HUDSONE, reader, from 1567 to 1585.
1585. THOMAS OGILVY, when Upsetlington was also in the charge; probably afterwards in Hutton.-[Reg. Assig.]
1588. ROBERT HISLOPE, formerly of Ayton, continued in 1589, was trans. to Swinton; but returned 1596, and died 25th June 1607. His librarie was estimat at L 31., utencils, &c., at xxx li., Inventar and dettis, vjc lxxx li. xjvs. viijd.-[Reg. Assig., Calderwood's Hist., Test. Reg.]
1608. ALEXANDER KINNEIR, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 26th July 1600; he was called before the Court of High Commission in 1619 and 1620, and was one of the Commissioners for the maintenance of Church discipline 21st Oct. 1634, was a member of the Assemblies 1645 and 1646, but died before 16th June 1654, when his son, Mr John, was served heir; a daugh., Margaret, was recommended for charity by the Synod 13th April 1686.-(Reg. 1668. ANDREW PATERSONE; A.M. attained his degree at the Univ. of' St Andrews 11th May 1637, died in March 1667, aged about 50. The insicht, &c., was estimat at lx li., and the iventar and detts at jm ijc lvj li. iijs. iiijd. He left an only daugh, Janet, to whom Peter Hay of Muirtoune was tutor as nearest of kin.-[Act. 1668 GEORGE DAVIDSON, A.M., trans. from Anwoth, coll. 24th Jan.; continued 14th Oct. 34, but died before 5th Feb. 1686, when his escheit was given to Mr Alexander Davidson, of Norham. He marr. in July 1699 Margaret, daugh. of Mr Patrick Hume, min. of Hutton, and had a daugh., Margaret, recommended for charity by the Synod 9th Oct. 1686. --Acts Parl. viii , Reg.
