JAMES SANDERSON, A.M., a native of Coldstream, where he succeeded to houses and lands by birthright, obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th July 1663, licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh 2d Jan. 1666, ord. and coll. 22d Oct. 1668; died in June 1671, aged about 28, in 3d min. His utencils, &c., were estimat at x. merks, Frie geir, d. d., jc xlij li. vs. viijd. By Bessie Craw, his spouse, he left Robert and Isobel, "little children."[Edin. Grad., Reg. Collat., Test. Reg. 1691. JOHN Moir, schoolmaster of Wemyss, having acknowledged his sin in taking ordination as a deacon under Episcopacy, was licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcaldy 14th July 1691, called in Sept., and ord. 24th Dec. same year; died two or three years after. Elizabeth Areskin, his relict, had xxx li. allowed by the Synod from the Centesima Fund in April 1700.-(Presb., and Earlston Presb. Reg.]

 

1699. THOMAS BOSTON, A.M., son of John B., in Dunse, born 17th March 1676, began his education under a schoolmistress, and afterwards attended the grammar school there, under Mr James Bullerwall, was subsequently employed under Mr Alexander Cockburn, a notary or writer, entered the Univ. of Edin: lst Dec. 1691, under Mr Herbert Kennedy, regent, and graduated 9th July 1694, his whole expenses at College being jc xxviij li. xvs. viijd, £10, 14s. 71d. sterl.; entered to Glencairn as parochial schoolmaster, latter end of 1695, boarding in the manse with Mr Boyd, the min., but alter holding it a month he resigned 8th Feb. 1696, and became successively tutor to Andrew Fletcher of Aberlady, and chaplain in the family of Colonel James Bruce of Kennet; licen. by the united Presb. 15th June 1697, called 11th Aug., and ord. 21st Sept. 1699; elected Synod Clerk in Oct. 1701; trans. to Etterick 6th March 1707.-[Mem., Reg. 1717. JAMES CHRYSTIE, A. M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 2d April 1705, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 27th March 1712. A presentation was given him to Dunfermline, 2d charge in Sept. 1716. He was called here however in Oct., pres. by the Presb. jure devoluto 6th Nov. following, and ord. 19th March after. A second pres. to Dunfermline was
