Estates; he had a pension of, £25 from the Exchequer out of the rents of the Bishorick of Ross 21st Oct. 1712, and another of 1100 sterling after the death of Bishop Rose of Edinburgh, 12th Sept. 1716; died in Edinburgh 6th Feb. 1724, in his 63d year-[Acts Parl. ix., Peterkin's Constitution of the Kirk, Edin. 1689. THOMAS RAMSAY, A.M., above-mentioned, having petitioned the Committee of Estates, obtained their warrant " for returning to the exercise of his ministry, reserving the right of the benefice and emoluments to the partie who shall have best right as accords of the law," 8th May; he was a member of the Gen. Assembly 1690, and died in June 1695, in 48th min. The insicht of his house was estimat at xx merks, Frie geir, d.d., ijc xxvij 1i. xs. viijd. He marr. Jeane, daugh. of Mr Robert Balcanqual, min. of Tranent, and had two sons, Mr James, bursar of divinity, William, bursar of philosophy, and two daugh., Rachel and Jean.-[Acts Part. ix., Reg. Gen. Ass. 1695. ALEXANDER LAUDER, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 2d July 1684, called in Sept., and ord. 29th Oct. 1695; died at Edinburgh 27th June 1719, in 52d age and 24th min.-Publications-The Ancient Bishops considered, both with respect to the extent of their Jurisdiction and the nature of their power, Edin. 1707, fcp. 8vo. (This is "reckoned one of the best written books in defence of Presbytery.") The Divine Institution of Bishops having Churches consisting of many Congregations examined by Scripture, Lond. 8vo. 1721. JOHN LAW, licen. by the Presb. of Peebles 28th July 1703, ord. l0th Sept. 1706, as min. to a Presbyterian congregation at Newcastle, pres. to this par. by Thomas Ray of Mordington 29th April, and adm. 16th Nov. 1721; died in Dec. 1735, in 30th min. He left Jane Low, widow with three children, William, Katharine, and Jane.-[Presb., and Test. Reg. (Land.).1

 

1736. RICHARD BELL, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 9th May 1722, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 3d Jan. 1727, pres. by Thomas Hay of Mordington in Feb., and ord. 6th June 1736; died 8th Jan. 1773, in his 73d year and 37th min. Helen Macfarlane, his relict, died 6th May 1794, aged 83. They had eleven children, only four of whom survived them.-[Edin. Grad., Presb. Reg., Tombst. &e.]

 

1773. JAMES SMITH, licen. by the Presb. 25th June 1771, pres. by Alexander Hay of Mordington in April, and ord. 23d Sept. 1773; died 1st July 1791, in 55th age, and 18th min. He rnarr. 25th April 1785 Isobel Dewar, who died 6th April 1828.-[Presb. Reg., Tombst. &c.]

 

1792. GEORGE DRUMMOND, trans. from Cranshaws, pres. by Alexander Renton of Lammerton in Oct. 1791, and adm. 19th April thereafter; trans. to Whitsome 16th Oct. 1800.[Presb. Reg.]

 

1801. WILLIAM DAVIDSON, ord. l 0th Oct. 17 62 as min. of the Presbyterian congregation, Castlegarth, Newcastle, pres. by-in Jan., and adm. 14th May 1801; died 24th June 1804, in his 69th year and 43d min. He marr. Jane Aitken, who died in 1821.-[Presb. Reg.; Tombst., &c.]
