1697. SAMUEL KILPATRICK, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1688, licen. by the Presb. of Linlithgow 17th June 1696, called 29th June, and ord. 16th Sept. 1697; died 29th Jan. 1711, aged about 63, in 14th min. He was a great punster, and latterly so overgrown, that he was unable to walk across the road from the manse to the church. His widow died in May 1723. He left issue John, Hugh, and Jean.-[Reg. Laur. 1712. GEORGE RIDPATH, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 26th June 1699, and studied theology under Professor Campbell there, licen. by the Presb. of Dunse 23d April 1706, called 18th March, and ord. 19th June 1712; died 31st Aug. 1740, aged about 62, in 29th min., leaving three sons, in the ministry, George of Stitchell, Philip of Hutton, and William of Edrom.-[Edin. 1741. JOHN TODD, tutor in the family of Mr Hume of Wedderburn, licen. by the Presb. of Dunse 6th April 1736, pres. by William, Earl of Home -,and by George II. in Jan., and ord. 19th July 1741; died 29th Sept. 1786, in 46th min. He marr. Jean, daugh. of Alexander Home of Jardinefield; she died 26th March 1795, and had two sons in the ministry, John of Fogo, and George of Eyemouth.-[Presb. Reg., Dougdas's Peer. Iij]

 

[Mr George Bell, licen. by the Presb. 27th Sept. 1 7 37, was pres. by William, Earl of Home, in June 1756, though it was not vacant, but the right was declared in 1759 to belong to the Crown. Mr Robert Pearson, min. of Biggar, was pres. by George III. in March 1787, but died, without being settled, 1st Aug. thereafter. Presb. Reg.]

 

1788. THOMAS MILL, son of John M., schoolmaster of Earlston, licen. by the Presb. of Lauder 4th Sept. 1781, pres. by George III. 6th Oct. 1787, and ord. 1st May following; deposed 2d Oct. 1800, for non-residence, and neglect of his official duty. He resided afterwards at Coldstream, and was employed in celebrating marriages on the Border. He at length died a pauper 29th March 1806, in his 51st year, after having spent the savings of two sisters, earned by their own industry, which he had got into his hand.-Publications-Two single Discourses-On the immutability of Jesus Christ. 1819. GEORGE HOME ROSERTSON, studied at the Univ. of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. 8th June 1819, pres. by George, Prince Regent, same month, and ord. 23d Sept. thereafter; died at Dumfries 12th Jan. 1842, in 23d min. He had never witnessed the dispensation of the communion, till he was called to officiate in his ministerial capacity.
