1649. PATRICK HUME, adm. before 24th June; conformed to Episcopacy, and was coll. 2nd Dec. 1662; died in Feb. 1679, in 30th min. His books were estimat at j° merks, and utensils at 1. merks. He marr. in Nov. 1649 Margaret Kinneir, and had a daugh. who marc. Mr George Davidson, min. of Whitsome.-[Sess., Ellen Sess., and Test. Reg. (Laud.), Reg. Sec. Sigill, and Collat.]
1680. JAMES ORR, pres. by Charles II. 12th Dec. 1679, ord. in the following year; deposed by the Synod of Merse and Teviotdale, for drunkenness, and died in 1694.-[Reg. Sec. Sigill., Min.-Book Reg. Priv. Seal, Tombst., MS. Acc. of Min. 1689.]
1693. GILBERT LAWRIE, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1673, afterwards took refuge in Holland, and returning was ord. by the Scots Presb. of London in 1686, went to America, and in returning a number of his books were lost at sea. He was called to Dumfries 12th June, and to this par. in Nov., and adm. 19th Dec 1693; died 3rd Sept. 1727, aged about 75, in 41st min. He marr. a lady who died 18th April 1721, and had Gilbert, Lord Provost of Edinburgh and afterwards one of the Commissioners of Excise, Sarah who marr. Mr James Chrystie, min. of Simprim, Andrew, Katharine who marc. Robert Lamb, younger, of Old Greenlaw, Marjory, and George.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Presb., and Sess. Reg., Tombst.]
1730. ROBERT WAUGH, chaplain to Lady Ruchlaw, licen. by the Presb. of Dunbar 1st April 1713, became chaplain at Hutton-hall, pres. by George II. , and by William, Earl of Home in Jan. 1728, ord. (delayed in consequence of opposition, which was carried to a considerable height both in the Church courts and in the parish,) 23rd June 1730, under protection of the Sheriff, with upwards of a hundred military, although the doors of the church had been barricaded; died 23rd Feb. 1756, in his 72nd year and 26th min. He marr. Isobel Murray, who survived him, and had a son John, min. of Menmuir.-[Presb., and Test. Reg. (Laud.), Wodrow's Anal. and Corresp., Tombst., Acts of Ass. 1728-1730.]
1759. PHILIP RIDPATH, second son of Mr George R. min. of Ladykirk, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 2nd July 1745, pres. by George II. in Aug. 1756, ord. 3rd May 1759; he got a new church built in 1765, and died 18th May 1788, in 68th axe and 30th min., " a man of great worth and learning." He marr. 13th Oct. 1768 Alison Hume, who died 17th Aug. 1790. Publications-Boethius's Consolations of Philosophy, translated with notes and illustrations, Lond. 1785, 8vo. 1821. JOHN EDGAR, A.M., trans. from Foulden, pres. by George IV. in April, and adm. 10th May; died tnd April 1858, in his 73rd year and 48th min. Though unaspiring, yet as a preacher he had few equals. He was representative of the ancient family of E. of Wedderlie. He marr. 7th June 1814 Jessie daugh. of Mr Logan, Lintlaw, and had Andrew, barrister, London, Abraham Logan, merchant, Glasgow, John George, who gave great promise in the walks of literature, with others.
