1648. JAMES LAWREY, "a very gracious young man,'" invited by the laird of Garthland, called unanimously in April, and ord. 11th Oct.; he refused to comply with Episcopacy, and was accused before the Privy Council 24th Feb. 1663 of "still labouring to keep the hearts of the people from the present government in Church and State."- [Presb. 1665. GEORGE HENRY, A.M., trans. from Dalry, adm. between 17th May and 31st Oct.; trans. to Corstorphine in 1672.-[Syn. Reg.]

 

1672. JOHN ROW, A.M., trans. from Balmaclellan adm. in 1672, when he came the kirklocks were spoiled, so he had no access, and was hindered from possessing the manse and glebe. A complaint was therefore made to the Privy Council 7th March 1673. He was trans. to Dreghorn before 1682.-[Wodrow’s Hist., &c.]

 

168-. JAMES ADAMSON, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 18th July 1664; trans. to Crossmichael before 1684.-[Edin. Grad., Kirkton's Hist.]

 

168-. ROBERT`, BOWES, A. M., trans. from Rerrick, ad m. after 21st Sept. 1681, he deserted the charge and demitted voluntarily in 1689. He died at Edinburgh 22d Nov. 1725, aged 84, in 59th min. He marr. 11th Feb. 1668 Margaret Lundie, who died at Rerrick 21st Sept. 1681, aged 45.-[MS. Acc. of fine. 1689, Edin. Reg. (Marr., and Bur.), Tombst.]

 

1689. JAMES LAWREY, above noticed, who bad been indulged at Balmaclellan, returned in July; was restored by the Act of Parliament 25th April 1690, was a member of Assembly in 1692, and died. 15th March 1695, in 74th age and 47th min.-[Reg. Old Dec. iv., Syn. Reg., Tombst.]

 

1697. ROBERT CAMPBELL, trans. from Old Luce, adm. in 1697; died between 2d Nov. 17 09 and 4th Jan. 1710, in 18th min.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., &c.]

 

1712. GEORGE CRAWFORD, trans. from Symington, Ayrsh., called 29th July 1711, and adm. 2d Jan. following; died in Jan. 1730, in 21st min. His brothers, Mr John, of Bridgend, collector of customs, Bo'ness, and Mr David C., clerk to the Admission of Nottars, were his executors.-[Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Wigton), Reg. 1733. HUGH MITCHELL, A.M., studied at St. Leonard's College and took his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews 3d July 1719, where he attended the Divinity Hall under Principal Hadow, became schoolmaster of Glenluce, was licen. by the Presb. 1st Oct. 1729, pres. by Alexander M'Dowall, Esq. of Garthland 4th May 1731, and ord. (by a committee of the Commission of Assembly, consisting of only the min. of Mochrum, Inch, and Wigton) 5th Dec. 1733. He was shot one evening, standing at his own door, between 16th Aug. and 3d Oct. 1738, in 5th min.-[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Presb. Reg., Acts of Ass. 1733, &c.]

 

1739. ANDREW DALZEIL, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 31st July 1734, pres. by Alexander M'Dowall, Esq. of Garthland 16th Feb., and ord. 27th Sept. 1739; died 22d Nov. 1755 in 17th min. He was the paternal uncle of Professor Dalzel of Edinburgh. ---[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., &c.]

 

[Mr JAMES BARR, licen. by the Presb. of Paisley 24th April 1751, was Ares. by William M'Dowall, Esq. of Castle-Semple 2d Jan. 1756, but resigned on being appointed Rector of the grammar-school of Glasgow in April following.-Presb., and Paisley Presb. Reg.]
