35. He was the friend of John Livingston, who preached at his admission. [Mr JAMES SMYTH, student of divinity at the College of Glasgow, where he had taken his degree in 1634, was pres. to the ministry of Glenluce by Charles I. 28th March 1642 to serve in place of the Bishop of Galloway "quha did reside at Glenluce and dwell in the Abbey thereof," but as the benefice was filled it went no farther.-Mun. 1648. JOHN SCOTT, A.M., trans. from Shotts, pres. by the Presb. 22d Sept. 1647, and by Charles I. 14th Jan., and adm. 1st March 1648. Both he and the elders were rebuked by the Presb. 26th Oct. thereafter " for want of a sand-glass for the use of the kirk, as also for want of a sackcloth wherein those who shah be found notorious offenders may show signs of repentance." He was a member of the Commission of Assembly 1649, and was exhorted by a poor woman in the par. 6th Oct. 1652 " to be very diligent, for within a short while a bloody throne should be raised in Scotland, the people of the Lord made very miserable, the purses of the nobles filled with the blood and substance of saints, ministers chased from their congregations, and forced to preach in woods and mountains." Another marvellous occurrence is recorded of Mr Scott's holding intercourse with a spirit in the house of a parishioner, and being “so wise as to intertain large discourses with it." He died in Dec. 1655, aged about 46, in 16th min. He marr. Katharine daugh. of Mr John Simson, she was alive 24th July 1661. 1684. COLIN DALGLEISH, trans. from Parton, he had a pension from James VII. of £50 sterl. 30th July 1686, about which time he left his charge, and apostatized to Popery. He was so chilly that he wore twenty-fold of cloth on him all the year, and furs on his head day and night.-[Wodrow MSS., Reg. Sec. Sigill., Chambers's Ann. ii.]

 

168-. JOHN INNES A.M., a native of Caithness, had his degree at the Univ. and King's College, Aberdeen 24th Aug. 1680; he was outed by the rabble in 1689, and died in Edinburgh 21st Jan. 1706, aged about 46.-[Fasti Aberd, MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Edin. Reg. (Bar.)]

 

1689. ROBERT HENDRY, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1676, became Presbyterian min. at Carrick-Fergus, entered to this par. about 14th May 1689; and continued following-[Edin. Grad., Reid's Ireland ii., Syn. Reg., &c.]

 

1696. ROBERT CAMPBELL, trans. from Gargunnock, adm. before 21st April; trans. to Stonykirk in 1697.-[Syn. Reg.]

 

1698. ROBERT COLVILL, A.M., trans. from Barra, adm. in 1698; demitted 7th July 1714, which was accepted 18th April 1716, and retired to Stranraer, where he died 6th June 1729, aged 70, in 36 min. He marr. 31st Oct. 1695 Katharine Westwood, in Greyfriars par. Edin., who died 24th March 1746, aged 69.-[Presb., Syn., and Garvald Sess. Reg., Tombst., &c.]
