blies 1586, 1590, was nominated by the Privy Council 6th March 1589 one of two for the maintenance of true religion in the Sheriffdom of Wigton, and pres. to the Vicarage-pensionary by James VI. before 13th Jan. 1592. He died 22d Jan. 1593. His utensils, etc., were estimated at x. li, and the Frie geir, d.d., amounted to vc xxxii. li vi. s. His daugh. Barbara marr. 1594. WILLIAM BOYD, A.M., trans. from Blantyre; continued in 1597, and was trans. to Kirkinner soon after.-[Reg. Assig.]

 

1599. ROBERT WALLACE, A.M., formerly of St. Andrews 2d Charge, presented to the Vicarage-pensionary by James VI. 11th Feb. 1600, he was a member of the Assembly in 1600, and appointed to visit the bounds of Nithsdale with his friend John Welsche, also in 1601 when he argued against the transportation of the four min. of Edinburgh, and likewise in that of 160 2, when he was appointed to wait on Lord Herries, one of the supporters of Popery. He was presented by James VI. to the Vicarage of Girvan 1st April 1601, and again 25th Jan. 1602, but was adm. to Tranent in Dec. same year.-[Reg. Assig., and Pres., Inq. 1605. DAVID POLLOCK, A.M., trans. from Dalziel; died in 1619, aged about 44. Though a "faithfull servant of God," he was no favourite of Cowper, Bishop of the Diocese, who " exceedit all bounds in abusing him, yea, he loved him not." He left a widow.-Test. Reg., Reg. 1622. THOMAS LAMB, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1619; he continued 2d Sept. 1629, but was deposed by Lamb, Bishop of the Diocese, for non-conformity and divers quarrels. He was charged by the succeeding incumbent to remove from the manse and glebe, but the Lords found 24th June 1630, that before he removed, he should be repaid the money given to the relict of a former minister.-[Act. 1630. JAMES KEIR, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1625, he was bursar to the Presb. of Linlithgow, and got from the Session of Calder iiii. li 8th Oct. 1626, adm. before 24th June 1630; died in 1632, aged about 27, in 2d min. He marr. Margaret daugh. of Mr Robert Thomson, min. of Crombie, who subsequently marr. Mr Robert Murray, min. of Balmaclellan.-[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Presb., and Mid-Calder Sess. Reg., Inq. Ret. 1632. WILLIAM PATERSOUN, A.M., trans. from Kirkmadryne, adm. in 1632; he gave x. li towards building the Library in the College of Glasgow about 1636, and was deposed in April 1639 for adultery. 1639. GEORGE DICK, A.M., studied and was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh, 23d July 1631, was one of those who refused conforming to the Articles of Perth, and waiting for better days, was recommended by the Assembly 1638 for supplying vacancies, and adm. 26th Sept. 1639. Charles I. made a grant to him and his successors of xiic merks from the Bishopric, which was ratified by Parliament 17th Nov. 1641. Mr D. was commissioned by the Assembly 1644 to visit the church in Ulster for three months. He died between 13th Aug. and 9th Oct. 1645, aged about
