HUTTON.

The parish was supplied by ROBERT FYNNIE, who entered Reader at Lammas 1568.

 

1571. JOHN CLAPPERTON, trans. from Livingston, entered in Feb.; he signed the Articles dictated by the Synod and presented by the Superintendent 6th Oct., and was a member of the Convention at Leith, 12th Jan. 1572. In 1574 Hornden, Lenell, and Upsetlington, were also in the charge with jc li, and the kirk-lands for his stipend; trans. to Lennel about 1576. - [Reg. 1578. JOHN HOME, Hornden and Fishwick were also then under his care; continued in 1580, and was trans. to Langton about 1585.-[Reg. Assig.]

 

1585. WILLIAM METHWEN, Swintoun was also then in the charge with the others already noticed; trans. to Langton in that or the following year.-[Reg. Assig.]

 

1586. ARCHIBALD OSWALD, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews, 21st March 1580; continued in 1593. He was pies. to Zethame by James VI. before 4th May 1594, but he does not appear to have been settled there. In the Gen. Assembly of that month Alexander, Lord Hume was ordained to " receave and interteane the said Mr Archibald within his houx, as his ordinarie pastor, and failing of him, some other discreit and godlie min., by advice of the Presb. of Dunbar; " he was trans. to Smallholm about 1594.-[Act. 1596. THOMAS STORIE, removed from Foulden; trans. to Bassendean about 1597.-[Reg. Assig.]

 

1599. ALEXANDER LUMISDENE, A.M., trans. from Auldcamus, which Vicarage he demitted before 7th Feb. 1606, but continued here in 1607.-[Reg. Assig., Test. Reg.]

 

1607. THOMAS  OGILUY, probably succeeded, was alive 6th July 1614, and drew a portion of the stipend.-[Kick Pap., Reg. Pres.]

 

1608. JOHN WEEMSE, A.M., only son of John W. of Lathocker, graduated at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1600; he was appointed by the Assembly 1608, as one of the best learned and disposed for peace of those on the side of the ministers, for maintaining unity among the brethren, and who were considered as tending to Episcopacy; trans. to Dunse in 1613.[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Douglas's Barn Reg. Assig., and Presb., Melvill's Autob.]

 

1614. ALLAN LUNDIE, A.M., trans. from Channelkirk, pres. by James VI. 15 April; demitted previous to 28th Sept. 1636, and was alive 1st March 1639. His grandson James was served heir to the lands of Spittle 17th Aug. 1683, this property is still possessed by his representative the Rev. Mr. Stow Lundie of Spittal and Clarubad.-(Reg. 1636. JAMES LUNDIS, son of the preceding, pres. by Charles 1. 28th Sept.; deposed in 1649, which sentence was approved by the Assembly in July. He died before 15th March 1692. He
