1826. JOHN LAME, born at Newtonhall, par. of Yester, studied at the Univ. of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. lst Oct. 1823, pres. by John Henry, Earl of Stair, 22d April, and ord. 13th Sept. 1826. On joining the Free Secession he was declared no longer a min. of this Church 30th July 1843, and died 2d Jan. 1855, in 29th min. He marr. 27th Nov. 1826 Elizabeth, daugh. of the Rev. LESWALT. Previous to the Reformation the Church belonged to the Abbey of Tongland. The parish was supplied by THOMAS MAKALISSANDER in 1567, and ADAM THOMSON, from Beltyn, 1571 to 1580.
1590. JOHN MOFFET, younger, removed from Toscarton; Clashant and Toscarton being also under his care; he continued in 1601.-[Reg. Assig., Kirk. Papa]
1614. THOMAS PROVAND; was a member of the Assembly at Perth in 1618, and voting against the Articles which they enacted, was upbraided by his Ordinary, William, Bishop of the Diocese, for so doing. He continued 10th July 1633.-[Reg. Assig., Calderwood's Hist., Presb. Reg.]
1634. HEW HUTCHESONE, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1627, adm. and inst. 27th Jan. 1634. He gave x merks towards building the Library in the College of Glasgow in 1636, and died in July 1652, aged about 45, in 19th min. Debts awand him ic lxv li vi s. viii d. He left a son George.-[Act. 1654. THOMAS KENNEDY, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1643, licen. by the Presb. 3d Dec. 1651, adm. before 28th Dec. 1654; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662, but not giving instantaneous obedience, he was charged and commanded by the Privy Council 24th Feb. 1663, to remove before 24th March next. He went to Ireland, and obtained charge of a congregation at Newton-Ards.[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Wodrow's Hist., Reid's Ireland ii., Bannatyne Miscell. ii.]
1664. WALTER M'GILL, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 26th July1657, adm. before 7th April 1664; trans. to Wigton after 23d May 1667.-CEdin. Grad., Syn., and Edin. Reg. (Marr.)]
1668. WILLIAM SOMERVELL, A.M., trans. from Stranraer, adm. between 28th April and 27th Oct. He got the escheit of the late Andrew Agnew, burgess of Stranraer, from his Majesty 18th Nov. 1681; was deposed 9th Sept. 1690 for intruding on his charge, &c. He resided afterwards at Lochanisland, Co. Down, where he died in March 1694, aged about 53. -[Syn., Test., and Edin. Reg. Sasines xxx., Rule's Sec. Vindication, Reg. Sec. Sigill, MS. 1692. THOMAS CASTELLAW, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th July 1663, sent to preach in the Presb. of Dunfermline in April 1691.
