1699. JOHN MONTEITH, A.M., trans. from Port-Patrick, adm. 2d March; died 21st Feb. 1714, aged about 51, in 17th min.-[Presb., Sess., and Syn. Reg., New St. Acc. iv., &c.]

 

1716. JOHN ANDERSON, born in Glasgow, studied at the Univ. and licen. by the Presb. there 2d July 1707, called 5th July 1715, and ord. 4th Jan. following; died 26th Aug. 1736, in 57th age and 21st min.

 

“He being melted with the spiritual flame,

                                                               Made all who heard or saw him feel the same.

                                                               Clearness of judgment, with expression strong,

                                                               In easy method charmed our thoughts along."

 

He marr. 2d Dec. 1734 Anna, daugh. of Mr Patrick Adair, min. in Carrick-fergus; she survived him, and had an only daugh. Ann.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb., Sess., Stranraer Sess., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Wigton), New St Acc. iv., &c.]

 

1738. JAMES M'FERRAND, a native of Greenock, licen. by the Presb. 8th June 1737, called 10th Oct. thereafter, ord. 10th May 1738; he was pres. to Stonykirk by William M'Dowall, Esq. of Castle-Semple 20th April 1756, but there being a competing presentation, the Court of Session 9th Feb. 1757 sustained the other from his Majesty. He died 1st Sept. 1763, in his 53d year and 26th min. Elizabeth M'Ewan, his widow, died 22d Jan. 1800. A daugh., Jean, marr. Mr George Blair, min. of Stranraer.-[Presb., Syn., and Sess. 1764. JOHN COULTER, a native of Crawford-John, licen. by the Presh. 25th March 1761, became assistant to Mr Alexander Fergusson, min. of Kilwinning, pres. by John Dalrymple, Esq. of Stair 8th Nov. 1763, and ord. 27th Sept. succeeding; trans. to Stranraer 1st Jan. 1772.-[Pres., and Syn. 1772. ROBERT CALLANDER, a native of Falkirk, licen. by the Presb. of Linlithgow 15th Aug. 1764, pres. by John, Earl of Stair, in June, and ord. 17th Sept. 1772; died at Maybole 29th Dec. 1812, in his 75th year and 41st min. He marr. a second time 23d March 1797 Janet, daugh. of the Rev. Matthew Biggar, Kirkoswald; she died 20th June 1814.-PublicaLion-Aecount of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. i.)- [Presb., and Syn. 1800. ROBERT COUPER, born at Clary, par. of Penningham, pres. by John, Earl of Stair, in April, and ord. (assist. and suc.) 18th Sept.; after which he was only three times in the pulpit, having died at Clary 30th July 1801, in 23d age and 1st min.-[Presb. Reg., New St. Acc. iv, &c.]

 

1802. THOMAS YOUNG, a native of the par. of Redgorton, pres. by John, Earl of Stair, in Jan., and ord. (assist. and suc.) 22d April. He died 19th June 1818, in his 66th year and 17th min.-(Presb., and Syn. Reg., New St. Acc. iv, &c.]

 

1817. JAMES FRENCH, son of Matthew F., tenant in Hillhead, par. of Stonykirk, licen. by the Presb. 6th Oct. 1813, pres. by John, Earl of Stair, in June, and ord. (assist. and suc.) 25th Sept. 1817.
