GEORGE HUTCHESON, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 23d July 1638, though be had been bred at Glasgow; he adopted Arminian principles; trans. to Edinburgh between 14th March and 28th April 1649.-[Reg. 165-. ANTHONY SCHAW, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 17th April 1639, licen. by the Presb. 12th March 1645, ord. min. of the Presbyterian congregation at Belfast in Sept. 1646. He served in this par. half a year previous to 30th Jan. 1650, and got the vacant stipend 20th Nov. following; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662.-[Reg. 1698. ROBERT FERGUSSONE, son of John F., of Castlehill, writer, Ayr, studied at the Univ. of Glasgow, licen. by the Presb. 31st May 1698, called in June, and ord. 22d Sept. following; died in 1735, in 37th min.-[Inq. Ret. Gen. 8253, Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii, Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Glasg.)]

 

1735. ROBERT FERGUSSON, A.M., got his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow 1st May, licen. by the Presb. 3d May 1734, called 23d June, and ord. 25th Sept. 1735; trans. to Ayr 2d, charge 13th Sept. 1758.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii, Presb., and Syn. Reg.]

 

1759. JAMES MOCHRIE, licen. by the Presb. 10th April 1751, pres. by John Hamilton, Esq., of Bargeny 10th March, and ord. 11th Oct. 1759. He got a new church built in 1772, and died 19th Oct. 1814, in his 89th year and 56th min. He took a deep interest in the management of Ecclesiastical affairs, was frequent and close in his attendance on the meetings of Assembly, and zealous and faithful in discharging the duties of his pastorate. During his long incumbency he uniformly enjoyed the best health, and preached with his usual clearness and animation on the very last Sabbath of his life. He marr. Jean Donaldson, who died 9th March 1804, aged 84; 2dly, 13th May 1805, Elizabeth Park, who died 15th Jan. 1851.-Publication-Accouut of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. ii.)-[Presb., and Syn. 1815. ALEXANDER HILL, A.M., son of Principal H., St. Andrews, born 19th July 1785, studied and was graduated at the Univ. of St. Andrews, where he got his degree in 1804, he became tutor to Sir David Moncrieff of Moncrieff, Bart., licen. by the Presb. of St. Andrews
