1830. JOHN MILROY, a native of Balmaghie, studied at the Univ. of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 28th Aug. 1819. He became tutor in the family of Sir James Ferguson of Kilkerran, Bart., was Ares. by Sir Hew Dalrymple Hamilton, of North Berwick and Bargeny, Bart., 3d June, and ord. 23d Sept. 1830. He was presented with a splendid tea and coffee service, value seventy guineas, by his friends and parishioners, 2d March 1841. He marr. 25th April 1833 Margaret Gordon, and has two sons, James William, min. of Torryburn, and Alexander J., writer, Kirkcudbright, and five daughters.-Publication Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. v.).- [Presb., and Syn. COLMONELL. The Church was dedicated to St. Colmonel, and previous to the Reformation belonged to the Chapter of Glasgow. It was disjoined from the Presb. of Ayr, and annexed to that of Stranraer by the General Assembly 24th Jan. 1699.
1567. JAMES GREIG, had been Archdean of Glasgow, and adopting the Protestant faith joined the Reformers, was appointed by the Assembly 2d July 1562 to assist Willock, Superintendent of Glasgow, till Michaelmas, afterwards to teach in the parishes belonging to Lord Erskine, and 30th Dec. following appointed for Carrick, if his lordship could consent, In 1567 he had a stipend of ijc li, and was pres. to this parsonage and vicarage by James VI. 9th July 1568. In 1571 he was one of those who signed the Order of Excommunication and public Repentance used in the Church. In 1574 Innertig was also in the charge. He was generally a member of the Assemblies, and was one of the Chapter for electing Montgomery, Archbishop, 12th April 1582. He continued 3d July 1584, but died before 15th April 1586, and had a son, Mr James, min. of Loudoun, and a daugh. Isabel, who marr. Mr Wm. 1585. JAMES ZOUNG, pres. by James VI. 15th April 1586; died 12th Nov. 1603. The utencils and domicils were estimat at xx li, mair for ane buik callit the buik of Psalms, xxs, Inventar and dettis Wxvi Ii. He marr.
