1669. THOMAS NASMITH, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1665, Ares. and adm. by James, Bishop of Galloway 30th July; continued 27th April 1671.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Wodrow's Hist., Syn. Reg., &c.]

 

16-. GEORGE YOUNG, A.M., born in Perth, studied at St. Leonard's College and got his degree from the Univ. of St. Andrews 26th July 1670, entered on trials for licence before the Presb. of Perth 3d July 1672; trans. to Kirkmaiden in 1682.-[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Kirkmaiden Sess. Reg.]

 

1686. JOHN RAMSAY, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews; being outed by the rabble, he deserted his charge before Whitsunday 1689, and went to England. He marr. Margaret Hepburn, and had a daugh. Agnes.-[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Syn., and Edin. Reg. (Bapt.), MS. Acc. of Min. 1689, Rule's Sec. Vindication.]

 

1689. THOMAS MILLAR, A.M., had his degree from the Univ .of Edinburgh in 1669. He attended the first meeting of Synod after the Revolution 14th May 1689, and continued 15th April 1690.-[Edin. Grad., Syn. Reg., Rules Sec. Vindication.]

 

1695. WALTER LAUREY, studied at the Univ. of Glasgow, ord. before 15th April; died 4th May 1742, in 48th min. He was proprietor of Redcastle, and bequeathed a house and garden, a seat in the church, a tomb, and nearly forty acres of land in the adjoining par. of Leswalt, to be enjoyed by and " to encourage my successors in office in all tune coming," under the burden of keeping the tomb in repair. He marr. 9th Nov. 1697 Margaret, eldest daugh. of Robert Gordoune of Shirmers, related to the G., of Culvennan.-[Presb., Syn., Sess, and Test. 1743. GEORGE BLAIR, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow 17th April 1725, licen. by the Presb. of Ayr 19th April 1732, called 20th Jan. and ord. 18th Aug. 1743; died 23d Aug. 1771, in his 71st year and 29th min. He marr. 16th June 1761 Jean, daugh. of Mr James M'Ferrand, min. of Kirkmaiden; she died 19th May 1816.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., &c.]

 

1772. JOHN COULTER, trans. from Kirkmaiden, pres. by George III. in Oct. 1771, adm. 4th Feb. succeeding; he got a new church built in 1785, had D.D. from the Univ. of Glasgow in Nov. 1798, and died 16th Feb. 1814, in 84th age and 50th min. He marr. 3d Feb. 1779, and had a son, David, merchant, Glasgow.-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. i.)-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Sinclair's St. Acc. i., &c.]

 

1807. DAVID WILSON, licen. by the Presb. 5th Oct. 1803, pres. by George III. 23d Dec. 1806, ord. (assist. and sue.) 20th May after. On the passing of the Act 50 George III. cap. lxxxiv.., he claimed the allowance of L.20 in lieu of a glebe, which was resisted by the Officers of State on the ground that he had at least equal to a glebe from the mortification of a predecessor. He then raised an action before the Court of Session, who by a majority decided against his claim in 1821. A libel having been raised against him, he interdicted the Presb. from proceeding, when they brought the case before the Assembly, who deposed him 30th May 1842. On petitioning the following Assembly they found " that said sentence was illegal, unconstitutional, and inept, and therefore declare the same to have been null and void,

ab initio," 29th May 1843. He died 17th Oct. 1845, in 39th min. He marr. 29th Oct. 1821
