1789. ELLIOT WILLIAM DAVIDSON, only son. of the preceding, licen. by the Presb. 23d Dec. 1788, appointed by George III. 15th June, and ord. (assist. and suc.) 3d Sept. 1789; died 21st Aug. 1846, in his 80th year, and 57th min. He marr. 8th Jan. 1798 Mary M'Taggart, who died 20th Feb. 1849, and had three sons-Isaac, surgeon H.E.I.C.S., John, Capt. of a vessel in the East Indian trade; Elliot, merchant, Liverpool; and five daugh., Mary, marr. Rev. James Reid, Kirkinner; Elizabeth-P. Hannay, Esq., of Sibyram; Susan-Dunbar White, Esq., M.D., Whithorn; Margaret- Rev. A. Forrester, her father's assist.; and Jessie-Mr Kevan, Glasgow.-[Sinclair's St. Acc., xvi., Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., &c.]

 

1835. ALEXANDER FORRESTER, pres. by William IV. Feb., and ord. (assist. and suc.) 23d April; demitted 23d May, and having joined the Free Secession, he was declared no longer a min. of this Church 14th June 1843, was adm. to Paisley Fr. Middle Ch. in 1844, and to St John's, Halifax, in 1848, being at same time Lecturer on Natural Science in the College for the Lower Provinces of British North America. He marr. Margaret, daugh. of the preceding incumbent.-[Presb., rand Syn. Reg., Acts of Ass. 1843, &c.]

 

KIRKMADEN, or KIRKMADRYNE.

The Church was dedicated to St. Medan, and previous to the Reformation belonged to the Priory of St. Mary's Isle. The parish was supplied by JOHN DUNBAR, reader, from 1567 to 1580, and was united to Sorbie before 16th July 1633.

 

1596. JAMES DAVIDSOUN, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. (at which time he was min. of Wigton, so that he held it in conjunction, as well as afterwards at Whithorn.)Reg. Pres.]

 

1617. WILLIAM PATERSOUN, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th July 1614, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 7th April 1617; trans. to Glenluce in 1632.[Reg. Pres.]

 

CRUGILTON.

Previous to the Reformation the Church belonged to the Priory of Whithorn. It was supplied by WILLIAM TAILZEFEIR, reader and vicar, from 1567 t0 1580; and NICOL M'CLELLAN in 1585; JOHN KAR in 1586; NICOL M`BLANE in 1588; and JOHN KAY in 1590-1591; and was united to Sorbie before 16th July 1633.

 

WHITHORN.

The Church was dedicated to St. Martin, and previous to the Reformation belonged to the Priory of Whithorn.

 

1567. JOHN BARRON, trans. from Galston, entered at Candlemas, with a stipend of ijc merks.
