1643. AROHIBALD HAMILTON, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow 27th April 1637, adm. before 19th May 1643; trans. to Wigton after 1654.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Stranraer Presb., and Dumfries Reg. (Marr.).]
16-. ALEXANDER FERGUSON, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1650; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. He was accused before the Privy Council 24th Feb. thereafter of " still labouring to keep the hearts of people from the present government in Church and State." He left for Ireland, and got charge of a congregation in the Co. Down.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Wodrow's Hist., Reid's Ireland ii., &c.]
1665. ALEXANDER COOPER, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1645, adm. before 17th May 1665; continued 27th April 1671, and was trans. to Selkirk about 1677. -[Act Rect. Univ. St. And., Syn. Reg.]
16-. ANDREW AITKEN, A.M., studied at St Salvator's College, and graduated at the Univ. of St Andrews 28th July 1677; discharged by the people in 1689; deposed by the United Presb. of Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline in 1692, and died of fever at Edinburgh 2d July 1704, in 44th age.-[Act. 1689. ALEXANDER GORDON, A.M., trans. from Kirkcowan. He was a member of the Assembly 1690, and continued here in Aug. 1692.-[Presb. Reg., Reg. Gen. Ass. 1690.]
1693. JOHN WILSON, licen. by the Presb. of Glasgow 17th June 1691, ord. after 17th Oct. 1693; demitted 14th July 1697, which was accepted by the Synod and a committee of the Commission of Assembly 8th July 1698. He was appointed by the Assembly 4th Feb. 1699 to supply vacancies in the Province of Angus and Mearns.-[Syn., and Presb. Reg., Acts of Ass. 1699, &c.]
1700. ARCHIBALD HADDIN, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Glasgow 1st April 1695, called 19th March, and ord. 8th May 1700; pres. to Penningham by James, Earl of Galloway, but the Presb., 21st June 1715, found that the jus devolutem had taken place ; died 3d Aug. 1721, in 45th age and 22d min.-Ann Weillie, relict.-[Mun. 1724. ALEXANDER ANDERSON, Librarian in the Univ. of Glasgow, called 3d Feb., and ord. 16th April; died March 1738, in 40th age and 14th min. Elizabeth Arbuckle, his widow, died 29th June 1781.-[Pres., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., &c.]
1738. JAMES MAITLAND, son of Mr John M., min. of Banchory-Devenick, bursar to the Presb. of Hamilton, by whom he was licensed 30th Sept. 1735, called 21st July, and ord. 21st Sept. 1738. He got the church rebuilt in 1750, and died 3d Sept. 1774, in his 62d year and 36th min. He marr. in 1746 Mary, daugh. of Mr Andrew Adair of Genoch, min. of Whithorn. She died in March 1807, and had John G., of Fairgirth, min. of Monigaff, Joanna, spouse of Mr William Boyd, of Merton Hall, min. of Penningham, and another daugh., who died in 1848, in her 95th year.-[Presb., and Syn.
