1694. ROBERT BURNET, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th April 1675, adm. between 20th March and 26th Oct. 1694; he was appointed to repair for a time to the Presb. of Perth, Auchterarder, and Dunkeld by the Assembly 12th Jan. 1697; demitted (which was accepted by the Synod and a committee of the Commiss. of Assembly) 8th July 1698. The Assembly 3d Feb. 1699 referred to the Commission to send him to Angus after May. He was appointed to go to Aberdeen by the Assembly 19th Feb. 1700.-[Edin. Grad., Syn., and Presb. 1699. THOMAS CAMPBELL, studied divinity at the Univ. of Glasgow, ord. 11th Dec. 1699; died 29th Feb. 1744, in 45th min. He marr. a sister of Murdoch of Cumloddan, and had several sons and daugh., one of whom marr. Mr Andrew Reid, min. of Carsphairn.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb., and Syn. 1746. GEORGE MUIRHEAD, A.M., second son of John M. of Teggetsheugh, born 24th June 1715, entered as student in the Univ. of Glasgow 1728, and subsequently that of Edinburgh, where he got his degree l11th Nov. 1742, licen. by the Presb. there 28th Dec. 1743 (where he met with some opposition on a charge of being unsound in doctrine), called 31st July and ord, 4th Dec. 1746; trans. to Dysart 2d Charge 8th Dec. 1747.-[Reg. 1748. EBENEZER STOTT, licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 1st Oct. 1745, pres. by George II. in March, and ord. 16th Aug, 1748; died 17th Sept. 1788, in 69th age and 41st min. He marr. for his second wife 30th Oct. 1752 Helen Watson, who died 2d April 1791, and had two sons, Ebenezer, and Watson, merchants in London, and a daugh. who marr. Mr Goldie.-[Presb., and Syn. 1789. JOHN GARLIES MAITLAND, A.M., son of Mr James M., min. of Sorbie, licen. by the Presb. 25th Nov. 1788, pres. by George III. 9th March, and ord. 14th May 1789. He was solicited to allow himself to be nominated as Moderator of the General Assembly, but respectfully declined. He died 29th Dec. 1835, in his 70th year and 47th min. His memory will ever be cherished as the early patron and friend of the distinguished Dr Alex. Murray, Professor of Oriental Languages, Edinburgh. Mr M. marr. 20th June 1791 Margaret only daugh. of the Rev. Dr Scott, Twynholm, and had several sons, one of whom is the Rev. Dr James, min of Kells, and three daugh. Jane, Stewart, and Mary who marr. Lieut.-Col. 1836. MICHAEL SHAW STEWART JOHNSTONE, son of the Rev. Thomas J., Dalry, Ayrsh., licen. by the Presb. of Irvine 4th Aug. 1835; pres. by William IV. in June, and ord. 1st Sept. He marr. Lillias, daugh. of Admiral M'Kerlie, and has a son Thomas Francis, min. of St. Boswells, and others.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., &c.] |
