1730. EDWARD BOYD, A.M., son of Mr Will. B., min. of Dalry, in the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, attained his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow 27th Dec. 1723, where he held a bursary of theology, licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 5th June 1728, called 28th June, pres. by James, Earl of Galloway in Nov. and ord. 31st Dec. 1730; died 14th Feb. 1765, in 64th age and 35th min.-[Presb., Sess., and Syn. 1765. DAVID HENDERSON, trans. from Leswalt, adm. 21st Nov.; died 25th April 1784, in 52d age and 22d min. He marr. 27th Dec. 1766 Mary Grant, who died 22d Feb. 1797.[Syn,. Reg., Tombst., &c.]

 

1785. ANDREW DONNAN, son of Mr William D., farmer at Ersick, whose ancestors for centuries had been established in the same employment in the country, studied at the Univ. of Glasgow, licen. by the Presb., became assistant in the grammar school, and also to the preceding min., pres. by John, Earl of Galloway in Oct. 1784, and was ord. 5th April succeeding; he introduced the Paraphrases into the psalmody of his congregation. He died of inflammatory fever 25th June 1798, in 14th min. He was a man of independent thinking, and of liberal views. An excellent classical scholar, fond of books, and of minute and exact information, with a turn for genealogy and antiquities, on which subject he left some curious papers relating to the county. He marr. 29th July 1794 Isabella daugh. of James Gordon, Esq. of Balmeg; she died at Peebles 15th April 1829, and had a son William James, clerk of Chancery, and a daugh. 1799. PETER YOUNG, son of a brewer in Leith, and tutor in the family at Balgreggan, licen. by the Presb. of Stranraer 3d Aug. 1796, pres. by John, Earl of Galloway 5th Feb. and ord. 5th Sept. 1799; died FATHER of the Church 28th Sept. 1864, in his 92d year and 66th min. His ministrations were characterised by acceptableness and ability, while in social life he held a high rank, and his company was much courted and appreciated. He marr. GLASSERTON.

Previous to the Reformation the church belonged to the Priory of Whithorn. The parish was supplied by JOHN KAY, Reader, from Nov. 1570 to 1589.

1664. ALEXANDER CUNNINGHAM, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1646, adm. before 25th Oct. 1664; not appearing after, it is probable he died, as Archibald, son of umquhile Mr Alex C., min. at Kirkinver, had sasine of the lands of Hairshaw, Drumboy, Medowflat, &c. in Co.
