165-. ARCHIBALD HAMILTON, A.M., trans. from Sorbie, deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. He was accused before the Privy Council 24th Feb. after " of labouring to keep the hearts of the people from the present government in Church and State," and was ordered, 14th July, to appear on the 23d, but as no more is said of him, it is probable he retired to Ireland. - [Wodrow's Hist. 1664. JAMES COOPER, licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh 16th Feb. 1663, adm. before 25th Oct. 1664; continued 31st Oct. 1666, and was trans. to Mochrum.-[Reg. Collat., Syn. Reg.]

 

1667. WALTER M'GILL, A.M., trans. from Leswalt, adm. between 23d May and 29th Oct. 1667; trans. to Kilsyth in 1675.-[Syn., and Test. Reg.]

 

1677. THOMAS CHRYSTIE, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1670; he entered on trials before the Presb. of Perth 19th June 1672, and having been some years a licentiate, he resigned his situation as schoolmaster and session-clerk of Kilspindie 25th Feb, 7 677 (probably with a view to his settlement here); trans. to Dunning in 1682.-[Edin. 168-. WILLIAM WATSON, A.M., studied at St. Leonard's College, and took his degree at the I1niv. of St. Andrews 27th July 1667; deprived by the Act of Parliament 25th April 1690, restoring the Presbyterian ministers.-[Act Rect. Univ. St And., MS. Acc. of Min. 1689.]

 

1689. ARCHIBALD HAMILTON, A.M., above mentioned, became min. to the Presbyterian congregation at Bangor, but being entreated and invited by the General Meeting of Presbyterian ministers, at the solicitation of the Synod of Glasgow and Ayr 2d Oct. 1688, he returned in 1689, was elected the first Moderator of the Synod 14th May, and was a member of the first Gen. Assembly after the Revolution. He died 29th June 1695, in his 76th year and 53d min. Unwearied and diligent in the pastoral office, clear in doctrine, given to prayer, easy of access, patient in distress, and a lover of peace.

                                                             His face fair weather spake."

 

He marr. 7th Dec. 1643, Jean, daugh. of Mr James Hamiltoun, one of the min. of Edinburgh, and had three sons in the ministry, John of Edinburgh, Archibald of Corstorphine, Henry of Currie, and a daugh., Mary.-[Reid's Ireland ii., Syn., Presb., and Dumfries Reg. 1701. THOMAS KARR, A.M., licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 23d July 1700, called 3d Dec. following, ord. 4th March 1701; died 31st Jan. 1729, in 50th age and 28th min. He marr. 1st 23d June 1701 Mary, daugh. of George Johnstoune, merchant, Dumfries, and had Andrew, Thomas, and Jean, who marr. Thomas Bailzie in the Isle of Man; 2ddy, in Oct. 1726, Elizabeth, eldest daugh. of John Lindsay of Ladylands.-[Sess., Presb., Syn., Test. (Wigton), and Dumfries Reg. (Marr.), Tombst., &c.]
