1802. JOHN WILLIAMSON, amanuensis to Professor Dugald Stewart of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. of Dalkeith 7th Sept. 1801, called 10th June, and ord. 2d Sept. 1802, he got a newchurch built in 1818, and died 20th Sept. 1834, in 33d min. He marr. 17th May 1803, Lydia, daugh. of Mr M'Millan of Barwhinnock, she died 18th July 1839, and had two sons, Dugald Stewart, min. of Tongland, and Matthew, besides a daugh. Maria d'Arcy Stewart. 1835. JOHN GORDON, son of Mr John Gordon in Culraven, Borgne, licen. by the Presb. 1st Aug. 1827, pres. by Dunbar James, Earl of Selkirk in Dec. 1834, ord. 19th March after; died at Liverpool on his way from London of cholera, 24th Oct. 1854, in 51st age and 20th min. He marr. 16tb Aug. 1836 Penelope daugh. of Mr James Murdoch, Annan, and had four sons, of whom John, merchant in New Zealand; James, minister of Stobhill; Thomas, a Probationer; and William; and five daugh., Mary, Jessie, Penelope, Catherine, and Margaret. -Publication-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. iv.)-[Presb., and Syn., Reg., &c.]

 

KIRKCHRIST.

The Church was dedicated to Christ. The parish was supplied by THOMAS ANDERSONE, exhorter in 1567 and 1568, THOMAS MAKCULTRE reader from Beltyn 1569; and was united to Twynham, probably after 1586.

 

1574. RICHARD BALFOUR; he had for stipend his awin parsonage and vicarage, xl ii, he continued in 1576, but died before 15th Dec. 1582.-[Reg. Assig., and Pres., Wodrow, Miscell.]
