PRESBYTERY OF KIRKCUDBRIGHT p. 726

 

1626. JOHN  BROUNE, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 25th July 1618. He contributed v li toward the building and library of the Univ. of Glasgow in 1636. He continued 15th Dec.1649. He had a son Robert.-[Edin. Grad., Test. reg. (Lanark), Commiss. to Ass. 1638, Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii.]

 

1655. JOHN WILKIE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1644; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. He was accused before them 24th Feb. thereafter of “still labouring to keep the hearts of the people from the present government in Church and State," but on appearance 24th March his case was delayed. Letters were directed against him 25th Jan. 1666. He fell into bad health, removed to Edinburgh in April after, whence he removed to Moffat for the benefit of the waters, but on returning was seized, imprisoned, and examined before the Privy Council 28th July 1668, who again committed him to prison, and next day sentenced him to go to Coupar-Angus within ten days after his liberation, but refusing to sign their sentence, his confinement continued forty days, and was changed on his petition, 12th Sept., to Moffat, under a penalty of vc merks, £27 15s. 6 2/3 d., and 12th Nov. his confinement was changed to Musselburgh, where he not improbably died soon after. He marr. Anna, daugh. of Mr Adam Kae, min. of Holywood-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Kirkton, and Wodrow’s Hist., &c.]

 

1664. GEORGE LEITH, A.M., a native of Aberdeen, where he graduated at the Univ. and King's College 13th July 1658, adm. before 25th Oct. 1664; died between 28th April 1670 and 27th April 1671.-[Fasti Aberd., Syn. Reg.]

1693. WILLIAM CLARK, licen. by the Presb. of Paisley 27th July 1692, ord. before 18th April 1693; died between 2d Dec. 1724 and 3d Feb. 1725.--[Syn., and Presb. Reg., &c.]

 

1726. ANDREW BOYD, A.M., son of Mr William B., min. of Dalry, was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow 1st May 1717; licen. by the Presb. 5th June 1722, called 31st Aug. 1725, and ord. 18th Aug. thereafter; he got a new church built in 1.730, and died 16th April 1761, in 64th age and 35th min. He marr. 3d Nov. 1720, Margaret, daugh. of Mr Walter Boyd, malster, Glasgow, she died 4th Feb. 1780, and had six sons and three daugh., Walter, William, min. of Penningham, Basil, Edward, John of Milton, Robert, Isobel, marr. Alex. Boyd of Langlands; Jean, marr. Mr John Scott, a succeeding incumbent; and Elizabeth, marr. Mr Henry Home, writer to the signet, Edinburgh.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb., Syn., and Test. 1763. JOHN SCOTT, son of Mr John S., one of the min. of Dumfries, licen. by the Presb. there 17th July 1759, pres. by in Nov. 1762, and ord. 21st April after, had D. D. from the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th Oct. 1785, and died 7th Nov. 1801, in his 65th year and 39th min. He marr. 17th Aug. 1767 Jean daugh. of Mr Andrew Boyd, one of his predecessors, she died 21st June 1819, and had a daugh. Margaret, who marr. the Rev. John G.
