1821. DAVID WELSH, youngest son of David W., Esq. of Earlshaugh and Tweedshaws, born 11th Dec. 1793, educated at the par. school of Moffat, and subsequently at the High School and Univ. of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. of Lochmaben 7th May 1816, pres. by Sir Alex. Gordon of Culvennan, Bart., 19th Oct. 1820, and ord. 22d March following; trans. to Glasgow (St. David's Ch.) 6th Sept. 1827.-[Dunlop's Memoir (Sermons), Steven's High School Edin., Presb., and Syn. 1828. WILLIAM GLOVER, son of Mr Will. G., Leith, educated at the High School there, and afterwards at that of Edinburgh, where he became Dux of the Rector's class, and gained the Murray-Macgregor Medal in 1817, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 11th Oct. 1825, became assistant to the Rev. Dr Campbell of the Tolbooth Ch. Edin., pres. by Sir Alex. Gordon of Culvennan, Bart., 15th Oct. 1827, and ord. 17th Jan. thereafter; trans. to Edinburgh (Greenside Ch.) 9th March 1837.-[Steven's High School Edin., Presb., and Syn. Reg., &c.]
1837. JOHN WHITSON, M.D., had the degree of A.M. from the Univ. of St. Andrews in May 1818, pres. by Mrs Elizabeth Gauld 16th June, and ord. 21st Sept. 1837; died 3d May 1859, aged 63, in 22d min. He marr. 15th April 1846 Agnes, daugh. of William Dick, Esq. Dundee, and had a son and two daughters.-Publication-Account of the Parish (New St Acc. iv.)-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., &c.]

1567. JAMES DODDIS, when his stipend was iiijxx li., £6 13 sh. 4d; trans. to Kirkcudbright in 1569.-[Reg. Min.]
1574. JAMES PRESTOUN; Partoun, Kellis, and Balmaclellane also were under his charge, with a stipend of jc xx li., £10, being "the haill personage and vicarage of Dalry, newlie disponit (payand his awin reidare)-[Reg. Assig., Wodrow Miscell.]
1577. ANDREW GORDOUN, enterit 1st May, Partoun, Kellis, and Balmaclellan being also in the charge ; continued in 1579.--[Reg. Assig.]
1580. JAMES HAMMELTOUN; he was elected one of the min. of Edinburgh 27th Nov. 1584 with a salary of iii° merks, and to get the house of either John Durie, or Walter Balcanqual where he was admitted for a tyme by the Synod of Lothian, "at the command of his Majesty." He still retained this charge, however, and died in Nov. 1594. His utencils and buikes were estimat at lxxx merks, Inventor and dettis jm viic lxiii li. xiiis. iiijd. He marr. Helen Adair of the family of Kinhilt, who survived him, and had a son John, and two daugh., Jane, who marr. 1595. WILLIAM HAMMILTOUN, trans. from Cumnock. He was a member of the Assemblies 1602, 1608, and 1610, and died between 6th Dec. 1633 and 2d April 1635. A son James was pres. to Bathgate by the Laird of Innerwick in July 1617, but returned home on his |
