1839. THOMAS JOHNSTONE, son of the Rev. Thomas J., Dalry, Ayrsh., licen. by the Pres b. of Irvine 1st Aug. 1837, pres. by Sir David Maxwell of Cardoness in Dec. 1838, and ord. 28th March thereafter. He marr., 18th Jan. 1842, Margaret, eldest daugh. of Robert Adamson, Esq., Dumfries, and has two sons, Thomas and Robert, and three daughters, Anna, marr. Rev. W. BALMACLELLAN. Previous to the Reformation the church belonged to the Chapel-Royal of Stirling, and was one of the prebends thereof. The parish was supplied by ELEIS MAKCULLOCH, reader, from 1567 to 1588.
1625. ROBERT MURRAY, A.M., son of Mr John M. at Tibbermuir, had his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1615, adm. to the Exercise (licen.) at Perth 3d Nov. 1619; in 1636 he contributed one dollar towards erecting the Library in the Univ. of Glasgow; deposed by a Committee of the Gen. Assembly before 27th Aug. 1639, for oppression, drunkenness, railing, selling the sacraments, sacrilege, bryberie, &c., but was reponed before 1643, and afterwards settled at Delting.-[Act. Rect. 1644. JOHN M'MILLANE, A.M., formerly of Sanquhar, removed in 1644, died, leaving a son John, who died in Aug. 1679.-Test. Reg., Wodrow MSS.]
1645. JAMES NISBET, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1642, he was a member of Assembly 16th July 1651, continued 15th Sept. 1656. His daugh. 1657. THOMAS WARNER, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews 12th July 1655, ord. in 1657; deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662, and accused before them 24th Feb. thereafter of “still labouring to keep the hearts of the people from the present government in Church and State." 1664. ROBERT MOIR, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th June 1658. His escheit was given to Sir James Turner, knight, 12tb July 1666, he joined in the persecutions of the times, and was trans. to Girthon in 1668.-[Edin. Grad., Syn. Reg., Wodrow's Hist., Min.-book Reg. Priv. Seal.]
1668. JOHN ROW, A.M., son of Principal R. of the Univ. and King's College, Aberdeen, where he took his degree 15th July 1658, adm. between 29th April and 27th Oct. 1668.
