1714. GEORGE GARTHSHORE, son of James G. of that Ilk (and brother to Mr James G., min. of Carmichael), chaplain to the laird of Westshiel, licen. by the Presb. of Lanark 20th Sept. 1710, called 26th Nov. 1713, and ord. 10th June succeeding; trans. to Kirkcudbright 15th May 1723.-[Greig's Fun. 1724. JOHN ENSLIE, studied at the Univ. of Glasgow, licen. by the Presb. of Hamilton, 29th March 1720, called 28th April, and ord. 17th Sept. 1724; trans. to the Scottish Church Rotterdam 11th Nov. following. After serving that cure thirty-four years, he was declared Emeritus in July 1759, and died 4th April 1766, aged 81. He marr. in 1728 Mrs Jane Tod, who predeceased him, and had ten children, of whom John, merchant, Rotterdam, and five others survived their father.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Presb. 1727. JOHN WELSH, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Glasgow 23d Nov. 1719, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 30th Dec. 1724, called 27th April, and ord. 28th Sept. 1727; died 8th Feb. 1753, in 64th age, and 26th min. He marr. 20th Sept. 1731 Elizabeth, youngest daugh. of Mr James Calderwood, clerk of Dalkeith; she died at Gatehouse 13th March 1795, aged 93, and had five sons and two daughters.-[Mun. Univ. 1753. ROBERT CARSON, licen. by the Presb. 12th June 1745, pres. by Major John Maxwell of Cardoness in March, and ord. 21st Aug. 1753; died 26th March 1769, in 16th min.[Presb., and, Syn. Reg., Acts of Ass. 1765, 1767, Scots Mag. xxvi., xxvii., xxix., New St. Acc. iv.]

 

1770. WILLIAM GORDON, pres. by David Maxwell, Esq. of Cardoness 2d Sept. 1769, and ord. 20th April following; died 30th April 1790, in 46tb axe, and 21st min. His sincerity, integrity, and unassuming manners made a deep impression on his parishioners. He marr., 7th Sept. 1772, Mary Denniston, who died 28th March 1836, and had a son, and a daugh., who marr. 1790. HUGH GORDON, a native of the district, licen. by the Presb. 6th April 1785, pres. by David Maxwell, Esq. of Cardoness, in May, and ord. 23d Sept. 1790; died11th Oct. 1808, in 59th axe, and 19th min. He marr. 8th Sept. 1794 Janet, daugh. of Brown, Esq. of Barharrow, who died 10th Sept. 1832, and had two sons, Rev. Hugh. Monquhitter, and Thomas, merchant, Malaga, and two daughters, one of whom married John M'William, Esq., Gatehouse.-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. xiii.)-[Presb., and Syn. 1809. THOMAS TURNBULL, licen. by the Presb. 4th Sept. 1805, pres. by Sir David Maxwell of Cardoness, Bart., 26th Jan., and ord. 18th Aug. 1809; died 6th July 1838, in 59th axe, and 29th min. He marr. 4th July 1809 Susan, third daugh. of the Rev. Dr Muter, Kirkcudbright; she died 7th April 1854, aged 74, and had a son, James, M.D., Liverpool, and
