1750. ADAM DICKSON, A.M., son of Mr Andrew D., min. of Aberlady, studied at the Univ of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. of Haddington 2d September 1746, pres. by John Hay of Belton 27th Aug. 1748 (the settlement was delayed by opposition in the parish, and a question as to the right of patronage), ord. 21st Sept. 1750; trans. to Whittingham in 1769.-[Dickson's Husb. of the Ancients, Aberlady Sess., and Presb. 1769. ROBERT BOWMAKER, licen. by the Presb. of Chirnside 2d Aug. 1761, ord. with a view of proceeding to America, adm. 26th Sept. 1769. Had D.D. conferred by the Univ. of St Andrews 25th April 1781, and died 11th March 1797, in his 66th year. He marr. May Watson, who died at Oatfield 24th Oct. 1816, aged 79, and had a son, who was many years factor to James, Earl of Lauderdale.-Publication.-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. iv.)-[Presb. 1797. GEORGE CUNNINGHAM, eldest son of Andrew C., gardener to Lord Aberdour, born 24th April 1766, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 7th Sept. 1790, assisted the Rev. William Shiels in the superintendence of his boarding academy at Westruther, and also for several months the preceding min. He was pres. by Robert Hay, Esq. of Drumelzier, after ascertaining he was the choice of the parishioners, in Sept., and ord. 9th Nov. 1797; died suddenly while at breakfast, respected by all denominations, 9th Jan. 1847, in 81st age, and 50th min. He marr. 1st, 23d Nov. 1797 a daugh. of Mr James Barclay, rector of the Grammar School, Dalkeith, she died 1st Jan. 1806, and had two sons, Andrew and George, the latter settled in Canada; 2dly, the widow of Mr Johnston.-Publication.-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc ii.) ABBEY ST. BATHANS. Before the Reformation the church belonged to the Cistertian nunnery there. The parish was supplied by WILLIAM COLVILL, reader in 1567, and by NICOL SYDDIE in 1574.
1591. MATTHEW LIDDELL, trans. from Ellem, continued in 1608.-[Reg. Assig., Test. Reg.]
1627. GEORGE REIDPATH A.M., trans. from Ellem. At this time there were of "communicants one hundreth and fortie," and "a schoole verie neidfull." He died in April 1628, aged about 58. A question was raised by his widow against his successor as to the Annat, when, 16th June 1629, the Lords found "the late min., having died before the term, no part of stipend was due for that year, and consequently could not be claimed by his relict and bairns but as Annat, and no otherwise, and that they should seek nothing of crop 1629."-[Stat.
