PRESBYTERY OF KIRKCUDBRIGHT p. 692
1832, pres. by William IV. 17th Jan., and ord. 5th April 1837; got a new church built in 1838. On joining in the Free Secession, he was declared no longer a min. of this Church 14th June 1843. He marr. 1st June 1838 Anne Stewart, youngest daugh. of the Rev. Dr Singer, Kirkpatrick-Juxta, and has three sons and one daughter.-Publication-Sermon preached in the Free Church, Kirkcudbright, Edin. 1848, 8vo.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., New St. Acc. iv &c.]
DUNROD. The Church was dedicated to St Mary and St Bruoc, and previous to the Reformation belonged to the Abbey of Holyrood. The parish was supplied by WILLIAM MAKCLELLANE, reader, from 1570 to 1591, and united to Kirkcudbright between 1612 and 1619.
1595. JAMES DONALDSOUN, A. M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 7th Aug. 1594. Galtway was also under his care in 1595.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Reg. Assig., Calderwood's Hist.]
ST MARY'S ISLE or GALTWAY. The church belonged to the Priory of St Mary's Isle, and the parish was supplied by THOMAS ANDERSONE reader, from Beltyn 1570, ROBERT BELL in 1576, and ROGER NEWLANDIS from 1578 to 1580.
ANWOTH. Previous to the Reformation the church belonged to the Priory of St Mary's Isle, which was a cell of the Abbey of Holyrood. The parish was supplied by ALEXANDER YOÜNG, reader from Beltyn 1570 to Beltyn 1572, Mr MALCOLM M'CULLOCH from Beltyn 1572, who died in 1577.
1577. DAVID MURRAY, son of Charles M. of Cokpule, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 4th Jan. ; deprived from all function of the ministry at the said kirk before 5th Jan. 1585.[Reg. Pres.]
1585. ROBERT MURRAY, son of Charles M. of Cokpule, Reader from 1578, was pres. by James VI. 5th Jan. (Nothing more of him discovered.)-[ Reg. Assig., and Pres.]
1601. ISAAC PATERSOUN, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 12th Aug. 1593, Girthon being also in the charge in 1601; pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 23d May 1602, and continued 14th Feb. 1616, under threatening of deposition by Bishop Cowper, who had “a worthie and learned man there to be planted."
