1770. ROBERT MUTER, licen. by the Presb. of Hamilton 29th March 1762, became preacher in the College Chapel, Glasgow, pres. by Geo. III. 15th Jan., and ord. 27th Sept. 1770; had D.D. from the Univ. of Glasgow 11th Feb. 1793, was appointed one of his Majesty's Chaplains in Ordinary, and a Dean of the Chapel Royal 20th Sept. 1805, and died 21st Jan. 1820, in his 86th year and 50th min. He marr. 5th April 1773 Agnes, daugh. of John Freeland, Esq., Provost of the Burgh; she died 20th Dec. 1825, and had seven sons, of whom James, Peter, and William were merchants in St Lucia, and Robert a Colonel in the Army, and six daugh., of whom Susannah marr. the Rev. Thomas Turnbull, Anwoth, Margaret, John Hannay, Esq., of Kirkbride, Laura, Mr David Miller, writer, Kirkcudbright, Jane, Dr Benjamin Welsh, surgeon, Haddington, and another a merchant in St Lucia.-Publications-Abounding Iniquity, and it’s fatal consequences, a sermon, Dumfries 1791, 8evo. 1820. GEORGE HAMILTON, son of the Rev. Dr H., Gladsmuir, studied at the Univ. of Edinburgh, licen. by the Presb. of Haddington 24th June 1817, became assistant to the Rev. Dr Pollock, Govan, pres. by George IV. in April, and ord. 24th Aug. 1820; died 18th Sept. 1836, in 42d age and 17th min. He marr. 8th Sept. 1823 Jane, second daugh. of Robert Gordon, Esq. of Langlanlee, and had three sons, George, Steward Clerk of Kirkcudbright, Robert-Gordon, merchant, Liverpool, John-James, merchant, Chili, and two daugh.
