1589. WILLIAM TAILZER, trans. from Glencairn, pres. to the Vicarage of Colvend by James VI. 27th Feb. 1597, but continued, and died before 30th April 1604.-[Reg. Assig., and Pres., Edin. Presb., and Test. Reg., New St. Acc. iv.]

 

1604. RICHARD BROWN, trans. from Holywood, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 30th April ; continued 26th Sept. 1638, but died previous to 25th Jan. 1645. He marr. Katharine, daugh. of Edward Hope, merchant, in right of whom he entered burges and guild-brother of Edinburgh 20th May 1619.-[Reg. Pres., Sec. Sigill., and Assig., Commis. to Ass. 1638, Edin. 1644. JOHN LIDDERDAILL, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews in 1634, pres. by the Presb., and afterwards by Charles I. 25th Jan. 1645; deprived on the establishment of Episcopacy, or soon after. Not compearing before the Privy Council, 4th Sept. 1673, he was ordered to be apprehended and presented before them.-[Act. Rect. Univ. St. And., Reg. Pres., Sec. Sigill., and Sec. 1666. ROBERT RAMSAY, pres. by Charles II. 27th July; he renounced with Mr James Winraham, advocate, ane annual rent out of the lands of Big, &c. in Nov. 1670, and died in 1677. He had “ane parcell of books estimat at xx. pi., insicht, &c., xx. merks. Inventar and debts ijc lxix li vjs. viij."- [Min.-book Reg. Privy Seal, New Gen. Reg. Sasines xxvi., Test. Reg. (Dumf.)]

 

1678. DAVID LAYNG, A.M., studied at St. Leonard's College, and took his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews 22d July 1665, licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh, 1st Sept. 1669, pres. to Langton by Alexander, Bishop of Edinburgh 1st Aug. 1676, which he stopt a fortnight afterwards; and to this par. by Charles II. 25th Jan. 1678. 1691. JOHN MURRAY, A.M., grandson of Mr John M., min. of Trinity-Gask, graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 11th Aug. 1682, called in June, and ord. 4th Aug. 1691; trans. to Wistoun 24th Jan. 1700, which was Dot carried into effect, Trinity Gask being preferred same year.-[Edin. 1701. SIMON RIDDELL, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 13th July 1695, licen. by the Presb. of Jedburgh 21st June 1699, called in Oct. 1700, and ord. 29th April succeeding. In Sept. 1715 he marched to Stirling with several of his parishioners in defence of his Majesty and the Protestant cause, and was one of fifteen min. who dissented against the resolution to depose the eight Seceding brethren 15th May 1740. He died 16th Feb. 1743, aged about 66, in 42d min. --- [Presb., and Syn. Reg., Rae's Hist. of the Rebellion, Reg. Gen. Ass. 1749, &c.]

 

1743. THOMAS WILSON, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover in June, and ord. 22d Sept.; died 8th May 1784, in his 74th year and 41st mina.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst.]

 

1780. JAMES WILSON, nephew of the preceding, licen. by the Presb. of Dumfries 15th Oct. 1777, called 11th Nov. 1779, and ord. (assist. and suc.) 30th March thereafter; died 23d Sept. 1827, in 72d age and 48th min. He marr. 1st, 8th Nov. 1791, Janet Harkness, who
