1689. THOMAS SHIELLS returned previous to 29th Oct.; and was restored by the Act of Parliament 25th April 1690, though apparently officiating at Roberton; trans. to Sanquhar 3d Nov. 1692.-[Presb., and Dumfries Presb. Reg.]
1703. PETER RAE, clerk to the Kirk-Session and Synod of Dumfries, was a student of divinity in 1697, licen. by the Presb. 25th Oct. 1699, called in Feb., and ord. 22d April 1703; trans. to Kirkconnel 19th April 1732.-[Presb., Syn., Sess., Dumfries Sess., and Reg. (Marr.).] MORTON. Previous to the Reformation the Church belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. The parish was supplied by Mr ARCHIBALD MENZES, exhorter from Beltyn 1570, and reader to 1574, WILLIAM CRICHTON, from 1576 to 1578, and ARCHIBALD DOUGLAS, from 1st July 1579 to 1591.
1580. THOMAS MAXWELL, Reader at Dumfries, and min. of Redkirk, is stated to be min. here in 1580, while it is also said "he cannot serve at sundrie places, maks no residence, but is a Jakman with Drumlanrik " (wore a steel jacket, and defended Sir James Douglas of Drumlanrig.)- [Reg. Assig.]

ADAM SINCLAR, A.M., had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th July 1622, had his private trials before the Presb. of Haddington 1st Aug. 1627; trans. to Sanquhar before 25th Jan. 1650.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Haddingt. Presb. Reg., Kirk Papa (Wodrow is the only authority on which he has been inserted, as he says he was here before going to Sanquhar.)
1648. GEORGE CLELAND, A.M., son of Mr George C., min. of Durrisdeer, attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1637, was chaplain to Lady Yester in 1645; continued 19th Sept. 1661; Rebecca Colt, his widow, was recommended for charity by the Synod of Edinburgh 20th Oct. 1685.-[Edin.
