JOHN POLLOCK, studied at the Univ. of Glasgow and had a bursary of theology 28th Oct. 1695, licen. by the Presb. there 29th Jan. 1701, called 4th April, and ord. 26th May 1704 ; he marched to Stirling in Sept. 1715, as a volunteer in support of the royal cause, against the claims of the Pretender. 1719. ROBERT JARDINE, trans. from Cummertrees, called , and adm. in Nov.; he was the favourite candidate for St. Cuthberts, on the moderation of a call 24th Nov. 1730, being supported by ninety-eight heritors and twenty-one elders; trans. to Lochmaben 10th Oct. 1732. -[Presb., and Syn. 1733. WILLIAM MOODIE, called 28th Feb., and ord. 26th April; died 23d Jan. 1772, in his 72d year and 39th min. Mr James Moody, one of the min. of Perth, was a nephew.[Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Dumf.), Tombst.]
1774. WILLIAM GRIERSON, son of a small farmer in the par. of Kirkpatrick-Fleming, where he was born 3d May 1733, studied and had a gift of a bursary from the Exchequer 20th July 1749 at the Univ. of Edinburgh, became tutor successively in the families of Mr Garthshore, writer, Edinburgh, Mr Dunbar at Duffus, and Mr Maurice West, Edinburgh, licen. by that Presb. in May 1758, was assistant in succession to Mr Alex. Robesone, Tinwald, Mr John Walker, Moffat, Mr Robert Findlay, Inch, and Mr Thos. Blacklock, Kirkcudbright, who, on account of his blindness, had recourse to a helper immediately on his ordination; called to the Scottish congregation at Dort, and ord. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 4th Aug. 1763; trans. to the English Presbyt. church, Amsterdam, in 1765; pres. to this par. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover 16th May 1772, adm. 3d Nov. 1774; died 31st May 1803, in his 71st year and 40th tain. He marr. 1st 10th July 1775, Abigail Dun, who died about 1784; 2dly, 25th April 1785, Margaret, daugh. of Mr Thomas Walker, min. of Dundonald, cousin of his former wife; she died at Edinburgh 11th April 1816, aged 63, and had three sons-James, surgeon, H.E.I.C.S., Thomas, min. of Kirkbean, and William-and three daugh., one of whom marr. 1804. JOHN BROWN, son of William B., tailor, Dundrivan, par. of Douglas, who, though his income did Rot exceed more than three pence a day, was enabled to bring up one son for the ministry, another ready for the min. (schoolmaster of Neilston), and one a laird who left property which sold for £2000, born 6th Jan. 1752, licen. by the Presb. 1st July 1778, pres. by William, Duke of Queensberry in Nov. 1803, and ord. 26th April thereafter; died 27th Feb. 1837, in his 86th year and 33d min.-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. iv.)-[Presb., Douglas Sess., and Syn. 1837. PATRICK BORROWMAN, licen. by the Presb. of Meigle 31st Aug. 1836, pres. by Walter Francis, Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry in June, and ord. 25th Aug. 1837.
