1615. WILLIAM DOUGLAS, of Stanypath, pres. to the Vicarage by James VI. 7th Feb.; was one of fifty min. who subscribed a Protestation to Parliament in favour of the Liberties of the Kirk 27th June 1617, trans. to Tyningham in 1621. 1622. CHRISTOPHER KNOUES, A.M., trans. from Spott., pres. by James VI. 22d Jan.; demitted before 10th Jan. 1639, which was not accepted, but he was deposed before 6th May 1641 for adultery. 1658. DAVID HUME, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th July' 1646, deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June, and of the Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. He preached in a conventicle in Edinburgh in the beginning of 1669, and was against the Indulgence. A warrant was issued for his apprehension by the Privy Council 4th June 1674, and letters of intercommuning were passed against him 3d Aug. 1676. He joined the fieldpreachers in 1679, but did not go the extreme lengths of several who divided from the larger section of the Presbyterians; he was present at Bothwell-bridge same year, and being obliged to flee, took refuge in Holland, and was one of the numerous body declared fugitive 5th May 1684; he returned, however, and died in Edinburgh 13th Dec. 1687, aged about 62, and has been represented as " of known zeal; piety, courage, and ability." He left a journal in MSS. He marr. and had a son James who entered prentice to James Home, merchant, 7th Feb. 1677. -[Reg. Laver. Univ. Edin., Wodrow’s Hist., and Corresp., Edin. 1665. ANDREW BANNATIN, A.M., formerly of Edrom, pres. by Charles II. 17th Sept. 1664, adm. in 1665; continued 11th Oct 1668. ALEXANDER DOUGLAS, A.M., trans. from Longformacus, pres. by Charles II. 1st Oct.; deprived by the Privy Council 8th Sept. 1689, for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, and not praying for their majesties William and Mary.
