1751. DAVID IMRIE, A.M., trans. from Dalton, pres. by George II. 18th April 17 49, adm. 20th June 1751, elected Clerk by the Synod 16th Oct. 1759, and died 28th Sept. 17 83, in his 72d year and 43d min. He leaned towards universal redemption, had very considerable abilities, which were strengthened by great literary industry and research. Passing years in the study of the prophetical writings, he thought he made discoveries in regard to future events predicted both in the Old and New Testament Scriptures which he supported with much ingenuity and confidence, and wrote on the subject, but his investigations remain unpublished. While his intentions were pure, he only became a dupe to his sanguine temper and his own theories. He marr. 12th June 1744, Elizabeth Johnstone, who died 8th Oct. 1780, aged 68. -Publications-The necessity of the almighty power and grace of God to cure sin, a sermon. Edin. 1748, 8vo. A Letter (in which he predicted the speedy conversion of the Jews, and restoration to their own land). Edin. 1755. (This letter he ordered to be suppressed as full of blunders, and promised the publication of a larger work which never appeared.)-[Presb., and Syn. 1784. DAVID DICKSON, son of D. of Locharwoods, pres. by George III. in Feb., and ord. 6th May; died 5th Feb. 1803, in 52d age and 19th min.-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. xi.).-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., &c.

 

1803. ANDREW JAMESON, son of a soap-boiler in Leith, licen. by the Presb. of Linlithgow 30th Dec. 1801, pres. by George III. 8th March, and ord. 18th Aug. 1803; died 29th March 1861, in 58th min. He marr. 1st March 1808 Elizabeth Morse daugh. of John Carmichael, Esq., Calcutta; she died 30th Aug. 1853, and had several sons, of whom John Carmichael, surgeon, Melbourne, and a daughter.-Publication-Account of the Parish (New St. Acc. iv.)[Presb., cvnd Syn. 162-. DAVID ROGERS, A.M., removed from Castlemilk, he was pres. to Melrose by James VI. 28th May 1624, but he remained, and was a member of the Assembly 1638; he removed again to St. Mungo (probably then conjoined.)-[Reg. Pres., Commiss. to Ass. 1638, Kirk Papa.]

 

1648. THOMAS HENRYSONE, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1642, he was a member of the Assembly 1648; and was trans. to Lochmaben.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Commiss to Ass. 1648.]

 

1659. JAMES WELLWOOD, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews in 1626, was schoolmaster of Errol from 14th Nov.1630 to 13th Nov. 1651, and on the Exercise at St Andrews 26th Jan. 1643. On the death of his wife in 1659, it is related he spent the whole of the night following in prayer in his garden, without thinking of his bereavement, entirely taken up with meditation on heavenly things, or in his own language, "upon the banks of Ulai, plucking an apple here and there." He was deprived by the Acts of Parliament 11th June and of the Privy Council 1st Oct. 1662. He. marr. 1st, Margaret Dury, who died in 1659, and he had three sons and a daugh., Andrew, author of "Meditations representing a Glimpse of Glory;" John, minister, who suffered in the time of persecution; James, M.D., physician in London, author
