1694. PATRICK HUME, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 11th July 1687, called in Feb. 1691, he had also another call from Wamphray, but this was preferred, and he was ord. before 11th Oct. 1692; demitted after 13th April 1725, and died at Garallan, Ayrsh. 25th Dec. 1734, aged about 68, in 44th min. The Inventar amounted to vm vjc xxxiij li xvjs iiijd. He marr. 1st, Mary Menzies, who died 11th May 1702, aged 34; 2dly, in April 1703 Elizabeth daugh. of Ambrose Johnstoun of Poledean, and had an only daugh. Catherine, who marr. 1727. JOHN ALLAN, schoolmaster of Annan, licen. by the Presb. of Middlebie 4th March 1724, ord. 26th Feb. 1727; he was one of fifteen min. who dissented from the deposition of the eight Seceding ministers by the Gen. Assembly 15th May 1740 ; died 2d Aug. 1758, in 70th age and 32d min. He marr. in March 1733 Margaret Young, who died in April 1782. -- [Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg. (Dumf.), Reg. Gen. 1759. JOHN BURGESS, studied divinity under Leechman in the Univ. of Glasgow, licen. by the Presb. of Kirkcudbright 1st May 1754, pres. by Charles, Duke of Queensberry and Dover 19th Jan., and ord. 26th June 1759, had D.D. from the Univ. of Edinburgh 11th April 1769, and died 2d Sept. 1795, in 71st age and 37th min. It is said his support to Professor Dalzel in scrutinizing the votes for the Clerkship in the Gen. Assembly of 1789 was of essential service in determining the election against Dr Carlyle. 1796. JAMES SMAIL, trans. from Dornock, pres. by the Commissioner for William, Duke of Queensberry in May, and adm. 23d Sept.; died father of the Synod 6th Feb. 1835, in his 89th year and 62d min. " He was a fair model of a parish minister; this he sustained by personal dignity, spiritual feeling, scriptural principles, consistency, and purity of conduct, with kindness of disposition." He marr. 11th Nov. 1779 Amelia Rollo only daugh. of John Irving of Cove, she died 22d June 1826, and had John William, preacher, James, Esq. of Raperlaw, Amelia, spouse of the Rev.
