This parish was supplied by GEORGE JOHNNESTOUN, reader, from 1576 to 1579. It was united to Hutton

by Parliament 14th June 1609.

 

JOHNSTON.

This parish was supplied by ADAM WILKIE, reader, from 1576 to 1580.

 

1615. WILLIAM STRANG, A.M., son of Mr William Strang, min. of Irvine, had his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews 28th July 1610; continued 21st Dec. 1643, but died before 12th Feb. 1647, when his brother, the Principal, was served heir. He marr. 20th Aug. 1622 Catherine, daugh. of John Henderson, merchand burges of Edinburgh, with whom he received ijm ijc lxvj li xiijs. iiijd., in name of tocher; she died 10th June 1623.-[Act. Rect. 1658. JOHN MENZIES, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 15th April 1645, he got a testimonial from the Presb. of Biggar 30th Jan. 1650, among whom he "had been a long tyme exercising, and was approven both in his doctrine and conversatione." He conformed to Episcopacy in 1662, and was trans. to Caerlaverock.-[Edin. Grad., Presb., Biggar presb., and Test. Reg. (Dumf.)]

 

1666. THOMAS WOO D, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1665; trans. to Cockpen in 1671.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Edin. Reg. (Marr.)]

 

1673. ARCHIBALD FERGUSSONE, A.M., son of William F., in Dirletoune, to whom he was served heir 27th Aug. 1698, had his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 1st Aug. 1662, licen. by George, Bishop of Edinburgh 20th April 1669; trans. to Kirkpatrick-Juxta about 1682. -[Inq. 1682. JOSEPH VALLENCE, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 18th July 1664; he was served nearest agnate to his cousin german 11th Aug. 1685, and vacated in 1689.-[Edin. 1702. SAMUEL TELFER, A.M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 13th July 1696, licen. by the Presb. of Biggar 3d April 1700, called 6th Oct. 1701, and ord. before 13th Oct. 1702; trans. to Kirkintillock in 1709.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Presb., and Syn. Reg., Acts of Ass. 1704-1709.]

 

1710. FRANCIS LINDSAY, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 30th April 1700, became chaplain to the laird of Mauldslie, licen. by the Presb. of Lanark 19th May 1708, ord. prior to 10th Oct. 1710; continued 13th Feb. 17 33. A daugh. Margaret, marr. James Clark, glazier, Canongate.-[Edin. Grad., Presb., Syn., and Test. Reg.]
