1650. JOHN LAURIE, A.M., (probably before at Monkland, and) of whom a recommendation was made by the Assembly 28th Aug. 1647, adm. previous to 25th June 1650; he conformed to Episcopacy in 1662.-[Dumfries Presb. Reg., Peterkin's Records, Wodrow's Hist.]

 

1679. THOMAS KNIGHT, (nothing more is known of him)-[Middlebie Presb. Reg.]

 

1689. ROBERTSON, son of the second son of R. of Struan, ousted by the people at the Revolution. Being proprietor of Fawsyde in Berwickshire, he gave up the clerical profession, and is said to have retired to Dalkeith. He marr. a daugh. or connection of Lord Lyle, and is represented by the family of R. of Ladykirk.-[Orig. Lett. of Mr R. of Ladykirk, MS. Acc. of Min. 1689.]

 

1692. WALTER MENZIES, A.M., obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh in 1668, ord. prior to 12th April 1692; deposed in April 1697, for fornication, and died 17th March 1699, aged about 51.-[Edin. Grad., Penpont Presb., Syn., and Edin. Reg. (Bur.), Acts of Ass. 1698.]

 

1702. GEORGE YOUNG, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of St Andrews 6th March 1696, licen. by the Presb. of Linlithgow 22d May 1700, ord. 7th May 1702 ; called to Whitekirk 2d Oct. 1720, which was fallen from by the parish, and died 14th Feb. 1749, in 74th year, and 47th min. He marr. Sophia, daugh. of Mr John Mein, min. of Westerkirk, she died in Nov. 17 60, and had a son, who succeeded to the benefice, and four daugh., Christian, Margaret, Mary, and Alison.-[Act. Rect. 1736. WILLIAM YOUNG, pres. by George, Marquis of Annandale in Sept., and ord. (assist. and suc. to his father) 29th Dec.; died 29th June 1761, in 50th age and 25tb min. He marr. 1st June 1750, Agnes, daugh. of Mr Alexander Orr of Hazelside, min. of Hoddam, she died 11th June 1809, and had George, Alexander of Harburn, writer to the signet, and Agnes, who marr. Dr Tho. Hardy, one of the min. of Edinburgh.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Tombst., Murray's Galloway, &c.]

 

1762. GEORGE BARCLAY, trans. from Wamphray, pres. by the Curator for George, Marquis of Annandale, 12th Nov. 1761, and adm. 24th March succeeding; trans. to Haddington 2d Charge 26th June 1766.-[Presb. Reg.]

 

1767. PATRICK NISBET, cousin of Principal Robertson, was a merchant, and failed in Glasgow, Ares. by the Curator for George, Marquis of Annandale, in Dec. 1766, and ord. 14th May thereafter; had D.D. conferred, and died 2d Jan. 1803, in his 82d year, and 36th min. He marr. Janet, daugh. of William Stirling, surgeon, Glasgow, she died 13th April 1795, aged 72, and had a son James, and three daugh. Mary, marr. Mr Laurence Dinwoodie, Glasgow; Elizabeth, and Margaret.-Publications-Seasonable Address to the citizens of Glasgow upon the present important question, Whether tire churches of that city shall continue free, or be enslaved with patronage, 1762, 4to.
