1732. ROBERT JARDINE, trans. from Glencairn, called 4th May, and adm. 26th Oct.; died 26th June 1749, in 36th min. " Though an orthodox and pious clergyman he had a great turn for fun and buffoonery." Janet Rennie, his relict, died 8th April 1778. He had a son John, one of the min. of Edinburgh, and a daugh. 1750. JAMES LINDSAY, trans. from Dunbarny, pres. by the Commissioner for David, Viscount Stormont, through the influence of Home, min. of Athelstaneford in Oct. 1749, and adm. 9th Aug succeeding; trans. to Kirkliston 30th May 1765.-[Presb., and Syn. Reg., Carlyle's Autob., &c.]
1765. RICHARD BROWN, trans. from Kingarth, pres. by the Commissioners for David, Viscount Stormont 15th July, and by the curator for George, Marquis of Annandale 27th Aug., and adm. 25th Oct.; died 13th Dec. 1781, in 52d age and 26th min. He succeeded to a baronetcy on the death of his cousin, Sir Alexander B. of Coalston, but did not take the title. He marr. Robina M'Bryde, who died 5th Feb. 1819, aged 81, and had two sons, James, a captain in the army, and William of Newmains, a wine merchant in Guernsey, and four daugh., Mrs Nivison, Middlebie; Mrs Cruikshank, Trailflat; Mrs Laurie, Lochmaben; and Mrs Geddes, Leith Walk.-[Presb., Syn., and Test. 1783. ANDREW JAFFRAY, trans. from Ruthwell, pres. by David, Viscount Stormont , and adm. 28th Jan.; had D.D. conferred in 17 93, and died 3d Jan. 17 95, in 73d age and 40th min. Characterized by the poet Burns, as a " worthy old veteran in religion and good fellowship." He marr. 8th Nov. 1762, Agnes, daugh. of Mr William Armstrong, min. of Canonbie, and had an amiable family, of whom was a son Hugh, and a daugh. Jean (Mrs Renwick, New York), heroine of that exquisite song, "I gaed a waefu' gate yestreen."-Publication-Account of the Parish (Sinclair's St. Acc. vii.).-[Presb. 1795. ANDREW BROWN, D.D., son of Richard B., portioner in Biggar, born 22d Aug. 1763, became tutor in the family of Cranston of Dewar, was licen. by the Presb. of Biggar 20th June 17 86, and ord. by them 17th April 178 7 , as min. to the Presbyterian congregation at Halifax, Nova Scotia, had his degree from the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th March 1788, was pres. by the Commissioner for David, Earl of Mansfield, 6th Feb., and adm. 11th Sept. 1795; trans. to Edinburgh (New Greyfriars) 10th Sept. 1799.-Publication (omitted page 12)Sermon on the Dangers and Duties of the Seafaring Life, Halifax 1793, 8vo.-[Edin. HENRY LAURIE, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 24th April 1799, pres. by the Commissioner for William, Earl of Mansfield in Nov. following, ord. 8th May 1800; died 3rd Dec. 1808, in his 39th year and 9th min. He marr. 12th April 1802 Robina daugh. of the Rev. Rich. Brown, a former incumbent, she died 9th Dec. 1851, and had William Francis H., Esq., writer to the signet, and a daugh. who marr.
