1679. JAMES PRINGLE, A.M., above mentioned, on a petition. from the heritors and parishioners he was allowed to preach (indulged by the Privy Council) 18th Dec.; probably deprived for refusing the Test. in 1681; died 24th Dec. 1686, in his 60th year. _He was proprietor of Burnfoot.-[Wodrow's Hist., Tombst., Test. 1683. JOHN BROUNE, A.M., trans. from Linton, Tweeddale, adm. after 6th Aug.; (lied in Jan. 1688, aged about 60. He marr. Anna Mownow, and had David bound apprentice to ane coppersmith in Edinburgh, Alexander to whom he left his “whole books," Marie, who marr. Mr George Broune, min. of Dryfesdale, Rosina, and Jean.-[Kelso Presb., and Test. Reg., (Dumf.)]
1693. JOHN MEIN, A. M., was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 10th Aug. 1692, licen. by the Presb. of Kelso 16th Feb. preceding; adm. prior to 10th Oct. 1693; died 1st May 1720, in 68th age, and 28th min.-His daugh. 1722. DAVID BALMAIN, A.M., studied at St. Leonard's College, and obtained his degree at the Univ. of St. Andrews 4th May 1709, licen. by the Presb. of Irvine 31st July 1718, called in Aug. 1721 and ord. 10h Jan, succeeding; died 15th July 1767, in his 75th year, and 46th min., having "discharged his ministerial duties with affectionate assiduity and universal acceptance." He marr. 5th April 1722 Janet Norvell, who (lied 5th May 1763, in her 72d year, and had one son James, an officer of Excise, who marrying a daugh. of Sir James Johnston of Westerhall, much to the displeasure of her family, rose to be a Commissioner of the Board, and three daugh. 1820. JAMES GREEN, licen. by the Presb. of Ayr 6th May 1807, became tutor in the family of Menteath of Closeburn, was offered a presentation to Cask in 1815, which he refused to accept, pres. by the Tutors of Walter Francis, Duke of Buccleuch, in March, and ord.
