found in it xxviij li. Mr. L. retired to Eymouth, set up a meeting-house, and died there in Jan. 1694. He had one hundred and twenty-seven old books, which were valued at jc merks, the plenishing at ijc merks, and the Inventar and detts at iiiic xlvj li. xiijs. iiijd. He marr., and had a son and two daugh., Margaret, Marion, and Alexander; 2dly, in Dec. 1679, Anna Blair, and had a son and seven daugh., Anna, Jean, Anna, James, Isabel, Elizabeth, Helen, and Katherine, three of whom were served heirs 22d July 1697.-[Sess., Dunse Presb., and Test. 1690. HENRY ARESRINE, A.M., promoted from the meeting-house at Rivelaw, Whitsome, called --, and adm. 18th Sept; he was a member of the Assembly in Oct. following, and died l0th Aug. 1696, in his 72d year, and 47th min. Besides the tombstone originally erected to his memory, another square pillar was erected in the churchyard at the joint expense of six hundred individuals, who contributed one shilling each. He marr. and had two sons, Henry and Philip, Rector of Knaresdale, Northumberland; 2dly, Margaret Halcro, from Orkney, who died 14th June 1725, aged 71, and had Ebenezer and Ralph, founders of the Secession, and , who marr. WILLIAM MILLER, A.M., a native of England, obtained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th Feb. 1694, licen. by the united Presb. of Chirnside and Dunse 14th June 1698, called 27th Sept. following, ord. 6th April 1699; trans. to Meigle in 1702.-(Edin. 1704. GEORGE HOME, brother of Abraham H. of Kennetsidehead, licen. by the Presb. of Dunse 6th Oct. 1702, called 18th Oct. 1703, and ord. 13th March after; died 5th Oct. 1755, in 52d min. He marr. a lady who survived him, and had two sons in the ministry, Alexander of Stitchel, and Abraham below, besides John, Rachell, Joseph, George, and George. At his death a question arose between his executors and the succeeding incumbent, whether the determination of a minister's stipend, who had been settled previous to the commencement of the New Style, is to be governed by the old style or by the new ? The Lords found, 24th June 1757, "that Mr. H. having died before Michaelmas 1755, according to the old computation, had no right to the last half year's stipend of that year, but the same does belong to his nearest of kin, as Ann; and that Mr. Anderson having entered before Whitsunday 1756, according to the came computation, has right to the first half year's stipend, payable for crop 1756."-[Presb., Sess., and Test. 1741. ABRAHAM HOME, second son of the preceding, bapt. 22d Feb 1711 licen by the Presb. 27th Aug. 1734, ord. (assistant) 17th Feb. 1741 (for this act the Presbytery were summoned to appear before the Lords of Session, at the instance of the patron, William Hall if Whitehall); trans. to Whittingham 26th Jan. 1748.-[Presb., and Chirnside Sess. 1756. WALTER ANDERSON, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 18th March 17 42, licen. by the Presb. of Dunse 5th Nov. 1744, pres. by William Hall, Esq. of Whitehall in March, and ord. 13th May 1756; had D.D. conferred, and died 2d June 1800, in 77th age, |
