1634. THOMAS CHALMES, A.M., a native of Moray, was laureated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 27th July 1611; he was proposed for Livingston 22d May 1616, but the Presb. 19th June succeeding " thocht it not convenient and expedient to put him to tryal for that kirk, partly becaus the Acts of Assembly and practice of all Presbyteries respects first their own expectants, and partly becaus the special of the parishioners, to wit the laird of Hayning was presently out of the countrie, and chiefly to avoid contention in that competition." He gave 1st Aug. 1632 xij li towards building the Library of Glasgow College, was deposed in July 1649, and died in Feb. 1673, aged about 82. He had a son James.-[Reg. Laur. Univ. Edin., Linlithg. 1659. WILLIAM GRAHAME, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh 15th April 1645, died 11th March 1673, aged 45. The insicht amounted to lxvi ii xiijs. iiijd. He had sasines of the lands of Reidhall in 1663, of Skarles, &c. in 1666, and of Pennersaughs and Blowberrie, &c. in 1669. He marr. Margaret daugh. of David Irving of Mossknowis, who died in Aug. 1691. Their son Mr William of Mossknow was served heir 21st June 1686.-[Edin. Grad., Syn. (Tedburgh Presb.), Test. 1686. JAMES CHALMERS, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 26th May 1682, deprived by the Privy Council 17th Sept. 1689 for not reading the Proclamation of the Estates, and not praying for their majesties William and Mary. He marr. Elizabeth Scott, who died in Edinburgh before 20th March 1710. A. son John became apprentice to James Brown, chirurgeon-apothecary, barges of Edinburgh.-[Edin. Grad., Presb., rand Test. JAMES GOWANLOCK, A.M., attained his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh 18th July 1692, ord. in Sept. 1696; died 18th Dec. 1744, aged about 73, in 49th min., leaving a son Dr. Matthew, physician in Moffat, and two daugh., Jean spouse of Mr James Gatt, min. of Gretna, and Janet.-[Reg.
