Opened in 1837, and constituted a quoad sacra parish by the General Assembly 28th May 1838.

 

1838. WILLIAM BROWN NIVISON, third son of the Rev. Abraham N., of Middlebie, licen. by the Presb. of Edinburgh 29th Jan. 1817, and ord. by them 26th June 1818, as one of the min. of the Scottish Church Amsterdam, which tee resigned in consequence of ill health in 1823; he officiated for a time as assistant to the Rev. Will. Scott, Dalkeith; was adm. 24th July 1838, but demitted 12th June 1844, and died suddenly at Portobello, 19th June 1858, in 66th age, and 40th min.-Publications-Sermons on various subjects, 2 vols., Amsterd. 1822, 8vo. The Key to the Sabbath Question, Edin. 8vo. Metre Out-Metred, a burlesque poem, Edin. 1854, 12mo. The Church Eclogue, a satirical epistle, Edin. 1855, sm. 8vo. Disjoined from the Presb. of Lochmaben, and included in the Presb. of Annan, on its erection by the General Assembly 21st May 1743.

1615. ROBERT M'ILDOWIE, A.M., trans. from Ruthwell; continued 18th Dec. 1616. [Reg. Assig., Prestonpans Sess. Reg.]

 

1636. ANDREW ROWATT, A.M., had his degree at the Univ. of Glasgow iii 1620; be gave xx li towards building the Library in that Univ. in 1636, and was deposed in June 1650. His son Andrew, was nominated by the Town Council of Edinburgh, a bursar to that Univ, on Johnstone's foundation 24th June 1657.-[Mun. Univ. Glasg. iii., Commis. to Gen. Ass. 163,S. Edin. Counc., and Mouswald Sess. Reg.]

 

1653. ROBERT RAMSAY, A.M., graduated at the Univ. of Edinburgh, 30th July 1646. His ministry ceased in 1660, but an act of Parliament 5th July 1661, allowed him the stipend for the crop of that year, "provyding he make cleir compt and reckoning with the gentlemen and heritors of the paroche for his intromission with the Mans-money."-[Edin. 168-. JOHN TURING, A.M., took his degree at the Univ. and King's College, Aberdeen, 3d July 1679, deserted his charge at the Revolution, and went to Insch, Aberdeenshire.-[Fasti Aberd., MS.. Acc. of Min. 1689.]

 

1696, GILBERT RAMSAY, A.M., acquired his degree at the Univ. of Edinburgh, 11th July 1687, ord. prior to 13th Oct. 1696; demitted his charge in 1700, and was deposed by the
